The wife and I took an Alaska cruise with a land portion that ended in Denali. In Denali National Park we saw a few animals. We traveled 43 miles on the road into Denali on a wilderness tour bus. We were told that was as far as we could travel since the road at the 47 mile point had fallen away due to melting permafrost leaving a 70 foot hole where the road had been.

Here's a few of the over 3,800 photos I took on this vacation. No bears. We were told there are about 300 Grizzly Bears in the Denali National Park and none were seen by us that day.

These ground squirrels were everywhere in the higher elevations and their holes were all over the banks beside the road.

Caribou were the most numerous large animal we saw.

We only saw one moose in the park itself. But there were heeps of moose pellets near our lodge along the Nenana River. Lots of it. We saw lots of moose around Wasilla. In fact, the first wild moose I ever saw was walking in a clear cut area next to a gas staion in Wasilla. Saw another one laying on a lawn in a city park.

We saw lots of Dall Sheep up on the mountains. Here's a few.

The landscape was incredible. Here's a double rainbow we saw.

We couldn't see Denali mountain from inside the park. It was completely covered in clouds. But we could see it on the train ride from Denali to Anchorage a couple days later. And I could see if from our upper story hotel room in Anchorage 130 miles away.

Very nice. I have made the drive from Anchorage to Fairbanks well over 120 times for work. People would regularly ask why not fly? Coffee, cruise control (in summer), and sometimes those views in the windshield. Never got old unless it was twice in one week.

Alaska when it’s friendly is as close to heaven as I’ve come here on earth. I’m glad you had a great time.

Great pictures. Thanks.

Everyone I met there that lives there was interesting, nice and inquisitive. When we left Juneau Skagway we passed by Haines, I believe. There was a guy on a red boat that sped past us in the opposite direction with his pants down and bare ass out. As he passed, he was slapping his own ass. Didn't have my camera ready.

Glad you had a good vacation.

When I lived up in Juneau, I got the impression there's a fair number of folks that weren't fond of the tourists. I'd say the dude in the red boat was probably one of them.

I’ve found Alaskans to be quirky, intelligent and if you’re a decent person they are gold. I think the guy in the red boat was giving them a local native welcome….it’s a real honor to have seen that brave chiefs bare ass. 😂

That could be.

In Ketchican and set my camera for Miniature Effect mode and snapped from pics from the ship balcony. Looks like a model train village.

Another thing. There were salmon in the creek in Kethican. Big ones. There were a lot of dead ones up stream. I asked several people including a couple of the fisherman what kind they were and was told Kings or Silvers. Even the fisherman give different answers which IO thought was odd. Just curious. I would have thought they were Kings. I had planned to do some fishing in Ketchican and looked into booking a day of fishing on the Kenai Peninsula but since it was just me and my wife and she had no interest and I didn't want to leave her alone (and couldn't make it work on the Kenia given the schedules), we skipped the fishing. Another day.

One thing about going there is I always imagined it being so far away. But its a day's flight. Now it doesn't seem so far out of reach.

Nice!

I’ve fished Ketchikan several times. The big salmon you were seeing were probably Chum. Not a favorite of the locals otters were chasing them when I was there.

I saw quite a few harbor seals at the mouth of the creek. I was told they were hunting salmon entering the creek.

Mt. McKinley is high enough and massive enough to create it own weather. It’s only visible 30% of the time, supposedly.

Glad you enjoyed our home.

Your McKinley?….like you discovered it? Your name Iron Bender McKinley?…actually that’s a good porn name. 😂

Mt. McKinley like all BIG mountains are like nice tits….even though you’ve seen them a thousand times before they never get old and every time you see them it’s like the first time. 😀
