Love my Delta Elite and went to my LGS today to take a look at Holosun sights. My DE only has a dovetail cutout for the rear sight. Is a red dot not going to be a workable option in my case?
As you might can tell, I’m not an authority on this subject.

IMO, an optics cut is the way to go for serious red dot use, but obviously that may be a place you don’t want to go for your DE. Search “1911 optics cut” and a bunch of places will pop up. Check them out and decide if that’s something you’re willing to do. Personally, I’d buy another gun that’s ready to go from the factory. There are a bunch now, both metal-framed and polymer.
There are dovetail RD mounts, but how secure they are I cannot say.
What fresh Hell is this?

I have had only one slide milled. I had C&H Precision do it. They did excellent work, and it was two weeks from start to finish. They are one of the few places that will mill 1911 slides.

Personally, I’d buy another gun that’s ready to go from the factory. The only 1911 that's ready "to go" to my knowledge, is Kimber's KHX and I believe they have another model also. 45 acp's, don't know if they have a 10mm? So much for what I know... as I believe Dan Wesson also has one. Both use plates for the red dot optic. I have had only one slide milled. I had C&H Precision do it. They did excellent work, and it was two weeks from start to finish. They are one of the few places that will mill 1911 slides. Lee, I am considering doing this... Could you post some pictures of yours, I'd really like to see that. Thanks, Jerry Lee, Okay... Got it, never mind.

I had a Gen II Glock 48 milled (black slide, no rail, no MOS) for a RMRcc. That was C&H. I will post if you still want it, but it obviously isn't a 1911.

Look up outer impact or dovedot, they make plate adapters that for the rear sight dovetail cuts. Rbu also makes them but it’s mostly for Glock.

After looking long and hard at my options, my conclusion was the Trijicon sight base milled onto the slide was the best option for me. Of coarse you'll need an optic with a RMR footprint. The other option I considered was a RMRcc directly attached to the milled slide. The biggest drawback to this is you lose backup sights. I sent my slide to ZR Tactical Salutions. They had about a 3 day turn around and did an excellent job.

As you might can tell, I’m not an authority on this subject. Travis is buying my Trijicon RMR Type 2, but he doesn't need the EGW 1911 Novak dovetail plate that I had on my pistol. If you think that that dovetail sight mounting plate would work for your Delta Elite, I'll buy it a padded envelope and send it to you. I don't know if the RMR screw mounting pattern is the same as some other red dots, but that plate is yours if you want it. PM me if you like.
My other auto is a .45
