I'm about 75% through this one, his latest in the series. I still like "The Terminal List" the best but so far this is a close second and I might like it more by the time it's finished. I realize it's a fictional plot with plenty of action but what I like about it is that it's based on current and historical events. Granted they're as he describes them but there's no reason to believe his perspective isn't as accurate as anyone else's. Plenty of blame all over the world including in this country that got us where we are today. IMO it's a good read with a lot to think about that's not all good.

At chapter 11. So far so good, Carr is setting the plot at this point. I also enjoy fiction with current events and history thrown in. W.E.B. Griffin is another great author.

I've started it and paused. I'll finish it and it will be good; but the sad descriptions of the current state of affairs is so accurate and so depressing that I can only take so much at a time.

Finished it. Other than a few kind of unbelievable "hand to hand" combat scenes it stayed good. More political detail but it covered some stuff I'd heard of but didn't know much about. Got to agree with Rangersedge, it's depressing. Took me longer to read than usual. I'd read a few chapters and put it down and think this might be worse than than watching the "news" because based on the historical context Carr uses it seems a lot more credible. IMO this book's worth reading as much for the information re the long term effects of various historical events and our own lying politicians as it is for the plot.

The author seems like a very genuine guy. I watch or listen to some of his podcast occasionally and Jack Carr seems like the kind of guy that could pull up a stump at a hunting campfire and fit right in immediately.
Every normal man must be tempted, at times, to spit on his hands, hoist the black flag, and begin slitting throats.
