I met my first "Lake Karen" last night while my daughter and I were fishing.

We were bass fishing a weed line in front of Karen's house. She had buoys out that said "swimming area" on them, and had a rope from shore to each buoy. This is not legal on public water in MN and WI. So did what we all would do....a fished that spot like a MOFO. laugh

My daughter caught 2 fish immediately and I caught 2 a few minutes after that. We were in that spot a total of 5 minutes. However, I was not inside the buoys, yet.

He old man was outside doing house maintenance, and didn't pay one bit of attention to us. A minute later I heard her say to him, loud enough for the lake and the neighbors to hear her, "should I call the police?"

I said to Becca, "this lady is going to come yell at us." Sure enough Karen came marching down with her gums a flappin. Normally I run a little hot but I went a different route. One reason being my 17 year old daughter was with me and I wanted her to see the right was to handle this, instead of my usual route. grin

Karen: "you can't fish here."

Me: "yes we can ma'am."

Karen: "this is a swimming area. There are buoys out. You can't fish here."

Me: "yes we can ma'am."

Karen: "It's illegal to be inside this area. This is your warning."

Me: "Who put the buoys out?"

Karen: after a pause...."We have an easement. A legal easement."

Me: "No you don't ma'am."

Karen: "THIS IS YOUR FINAL WARNING. I HAVE PHOTOS OF YOUR BOAT AND I'M CALLING THE SHERRIFF."

Me: "Call him. Please tell him I said "hello" and I'll fish here until he comes."

Karen crossed her arms and literally stomped back to the house."

Anyone wanna take a guess on where the wife and I will be fishing on Sunday afternoon?

People who hate others for fishing docks piss me off.

I mean, yeah, common sense if you have kids jumping off or playing off the dock - don't be hucking 1lb musky baits in there but outside of that - open lake lady.

You need to ANCHOR there, full tunes, beers, and worms now all Saturday. State Law. /DonnyBakerRIP

WTF? An "easement" that extends into the lake?! What a lunatic....

I'd skip the beers if I anticipate interacting with the authorities.

She has probably been running people off for years. She has likely taken ten years off her husbands life worrying him to death about if someone is trespassing on her “legal easement”.

I don't know about your locale, but i believe in some places open container laws apply on the water .

That's exactly right. If someone was actually swimming there it's an easy pass. Nobody was and nobody will be. It's 8' deep with weeds and milfoil right up to the shore. Great for bass, not for ass. They were slimy ass weeds too. Not the grassy type you don't really mind swimming in.

The spotlock will be on this weekend.

Naw. This is a new set up this year. I've been fishing that lake for 12 years. The old man didn't pay attention to us or her at all. He knew better and kept right along with the house maintenance. Seriously, he didn't even look at her. He knows she's a kook.

It's WISCO here - open container doesn't apply to just about anything lol.

People buy lakefront property and then try to claim all the water that touches their yard. Different places have different laws/rules regarding that but usually, the Karen/Ken has no real clue what the law is. There are tons of videos about fishermen vs. homeowners. It always irks me when some ole bitty is carrying on at a kid for walking along the shore of a body of water and fishing. So what if he is cutting across the edge of your property while fishing, there are a hell of a lot of worse things for a kid to be doing than fishing.

You can have them on the boat no problem. But if you're operation while intoxicated, the same rules apply as driving. We're a pretty serious fishing family, the kids are piled into the boat, we're fishing.

I may make an exception this weekend. We might anchor up and swim. laugh
