Just got the old Silverado out of the barn to check things and limber it up for a run, and found that the glass part on a side mirror is coming loose. It’s one of those motor-adjustable setups and I have almost no experience with those.
It looks as though the glass was glued to the mechanism behind it and meant to be replaceable without taking the whole assembly apart. Is this likely the case?.
If so, maybe should not use some heavy duty epoxy to re-stick it and am thinking about something like E6000. Have you done this – and with what? Knowledgeable recommendations out there?

There is a special adhesive for mirror glass, I believe NAPA has it (probably lots of others too).

Epoxy is probably a no go. Thermoelasticity will fail the adhesion over time.
3m 5200... is what I would use.
E6000 will probably work also (but I have much less experience with it).
The 5200 will take 3-5 days to cure out properly, BUT ONCE CURED it is unbelievably strong and permanent.

I even use 5200 to reattach the metal windshield clip for the rear view mirror (let cure to 2 weeks with tape to hold in place). Prep with denatured alcohol and Dremel the clip some.

What year ? Most of them pop off, replacements are very cheap. Very common in GM trucks. Most use 2 sided tape.

It probably was installed with 2 side tape. To all - thanks for the specifics on adhesives - taught me some stuff. Due to impending drive, will probably try something faster setting than the 5200.

Make sure it is mirror rated. Some will eat up the coating on the back and your mirror will look like garbage pronto

The backing plates often break the retaining tabs. Pretty much pop out and replace. Can buy backing plate and mirror assy. at most auto parts.

I wonder if GM uses the same glue as they do when they glue their pickup doors on? I've seen that adhesion fail too.

Applied the E6000 as best I could reaching in there with a thin spatula, taped the glass in tight and let it set for 24 hours - started driving and left one strip of tape on for another 24 hours for insurance then removed that one.
Worked great - drove about 1000 miles, lots of heat outside, then rain, and then heavy winds for about 2 hours. Glass is till secure. Thanks for all of the info and advice.
