Our camp is located in the heart of the PA Elk range.
None of us have ever applied for a tag.
Three have to date been killed on our property however.
One with and two without permission.
Annual Elk shoot would actually be a more appropriate name for it.

yobuck has it right. Not too many places in PA where you aren't more than a mile (?) from a road. I'm not saying it's easy but compared to the places I hunt in CO, it's a cakewalk! I mean how far do they run when spooked, I've seen them go miles from one drainage into another.

I've seen some pretty damn wild elk while bear hunting in PA. Most of the hunting isn't in downtown Benezette though. wink

I think I have 19 points this year. We'll see.

Good luck to whoever is in!

I prefer everything in my life to be hard.

And it better be hard on everyone around me too!

Sounds like your camp is missing out on all the fun.

I think I have 12 or so. Plus some for the "new" draws archery etc.

I've known several who have drawn.

It'll be my turn eventually

Yes but thats where all the partying takes place with all the gawkers at the one and only Elk check station.
And you can find most of those wild ones right along the roads eating grass in peoples yards, including ours.
Same place a very large percentage of them are shot.

Haven't seen a list yet but no call or email.

Assuming I'll be applying again next year!

I drew a bull tag in 04, resulting in a giant 7x7. Since then, I have been putting the wife and kids in for the drawing. Total of PP's is like 96-98, no go this year. Might have a better chance if we were nonresidents.

I don't think that residency has anything to do with it.

I'm from Indiana county previously.

But now Trumbull county Ohio.

Hopefully will be back someday.

Still have property in Indiana county.

I've driven 27 hours to do a diy elk hunt in the big mean mnts of Colorado. I've driven 31 hours (twice) to hunt newfoundland. I've busted my ass chasing bears in PA for 40+ years. Now with two shot knees and a bad shoulder, I'd be pretty damn happy with an "elk shoot" that I only have to drive 3 hours to get to, with a chance to get a trophy that's practically unobtainable out west. YMMV
