Just wondering if anyone has had a #3 rebarreled? Any problems? Any regrets? Or did it go well, let’s hear it!

This is a #3 in 22 Hornet with a trashed barrel hat I bought and rebarreled in 7mm Rem Mag with #1 extractor, wood, and barrel. I call it a #13.

I saw a Ruger #3 that had been rebarreled to 25-20 several years ago. Very nice looking rifle

I got a #3 in .45-70 really cheap some years ago (now why would a fella sell one of those after shooting less than a box of shells???).

I had it re-barreled to a 22" tapered .250-3000 and altered a #1A stock to work with the original #3 lever (which I prefer to the stock #1 lever anyway), and turned the #3 forend into a short Brit style with an ebony tip.

Called it my "recoil-less rifle" and used it for many years. If I recall correctly Bullberry did the re-barrel and fitted a barrel band front ramp to it.

I bought a 45-70 #3 many years ago. Had it rebarreled to a 222 Rem. and replaced the #3 stock with a number 1 stock fore and aft and resulted in beauty that really shoots. I never did fire the original #3 in the 45-70.

I never fired mine as a .45-70 either. Been kicked around enough already.

Somebody used to make a nice blued steel and checkered #3 buttplate to replace the original plastic fantastic that Ruger stuck on them. Looked good but wouldn't tame the recoil of the .45-70 any. I stuck Limbsaver pull-on pad on my #3 .30-40 and the kick was quite tolerable. Added an inch of pull that I needed, too.

Thanks! Is anyone still around that would/ could the work?

The reason I’m asking is I can pick up a #3 in 375 Winchester with a trashed barrel for a reasonable amount.

PacNor can rebarrel them and do a nice job. Ejector may be an issue when changing cartridges as they can be hard to find in the correct size.

They converted a #1 from 7mm Mag to 6mm CM for me, so I had to source a medium size ejector for them to fit and complete the job.
