My Echo line trimmer finally gave out for the last time. It looks like it's time for me to join the 21st century of garden tools.
What is the best battery-operated line trimmer? I'll probably need a hedge cutter too at some point, so tools with universal batteries seem like a no-brainer.

What do you guys recommend?

We just bought Dewalt, that uses the same batteries/chargers as some drills and screwers I have. Echo is also not a bad choice (love my Echo gas saw), and I hear good things about Milwaukee also.

I use my Ryobi battery tools a lot also. Not quite the quality of DeWalt, but they do OK for what I use them for.

Take your pick, but go all in on ONE brand, as far as the battery stuff goes.

If you can find the 2x (36 volt) battery version near you I recommend.

https://www.homedepot.com/p/Makita-...Four-5-0-Ah-Batteries-XRU15PT1/311337257

Some come bare tool... some come with 2 18v batteries and some come with FOUR BATTERIES.

Do not have the string trimmer, but do have two of the chainsaws and two of the leaf blowers and frankly they are great!

16 batteries total... plus drills and such... Great value.

Milwaukee makes better tools (by a bit), but Makita and 4x battery promotions got me in their game.

Good luck...

I like the Worx weed trimmer a lot but don't have a huge lot. Batteries last pretty good and work on their other tools too.

If you already own Milwaukee tools the Milwaukee Fuel trimmer is nice and they have a few attachments to make it more versatile.

Lol, If you don't already own Milwaukee tools maybe it's time you step into the 21st century of power tools as well.

Have a Worx and a Ryobi. Like them both.

It’s the batteries that are the big deal. All are different and expensive.

All my drills, saws, blowers, etc. are Ryobi so they can all use the same battery.

I used to like my Kobalt 80v from Lowes, but it is too hard to load the line. Don't buy the Kobalt.

Don't know about the others, but the DeWalt I bought is really easy to load line on. Take up to 20', run it through the center hole, even out the ends, turn the spool until there is only a couple inches hanging out. Bump on ground while running to advance more line.

The line has curl in it, so a light fishing sinker on the end, draped over a table or chair edge puts enough "straightener" on it so it spools up easily.

Or you could just grow a third hand....... smile

Had a Milwaukee for a couple of years. Works great. Easy string change. Same battery runs my Milwaukee portable table saw and blower. Batteries are not cheap though.
