I'm not aware of any factory options, much less being in stainless for wet Alaska. Am I missing something or will this need to be a custom build? I've been looking at having a left handed 375 Ruger rebored to 416 Ruger by JES Reboring (done great work for me previously) but I am not sure if he does 416 caliber.

Yes, I know a 375 Ruger will work. It's just, for certain areas that I hunt there's no possibility of longer than 80 yard shots and it's just as likely I'd find a grizzly bear at 5 yards.

What are you looking for? Also, I'm not clear on why the 375 isn't it.

Finding left-handed rifles in a specific caliber / material combination can be tough sometimes. I have never shot a Shaw Custom rifle but I just wanted you to be aware of their existence if you weren't.

Basically Shaw takes their custom barrels & builds a rifle using a Savage receiver. So you can specify right / left or chrome moly / stainless in a wide selection of calibers. I clicked a few options and built a left-handed 416 Ruger in stainless with a laminated stock for less than $1,200. Based on your specified criteria of wanting a big caliber to shoot a bear at 5 yards, I thought this might be an adequate option worth considering.

Thanks, Odonata, I knew of Shaw's custom rifles years ago but needed the reminder. I'll definitely mull it over. Thanks!

You're welcome. The only other suggestion I could think of for running into a grizzly bear at close range is there's a couple of auction sites that will often have left-handed Weatherby's in some pretty big magnum calibers. Occasionally they'll be in past left-handed models of their Alaskan DGR (https://weatherby.com/store/markv-dangerous-game-rifle/) . Other times they're just standard rifles like this for example:

The Savage Special Order shop will do pretty much the same thing. It's not a true custom shop, but if it's a chambering they have offered in the past, they will put together a rifle for you in the caliber. Mark up is pretty minimal from a current production rifle.

Another option is to buy a left haded 375 Ruger and a right handed 416 Ruger and then do a barrel swap.
