Buying this as a present for a friend of mine, who doesn't need anything fancy or in super-shape. In fact would probably prefer a post-'64, as I've owned several in various chamberings and they always worked fine. He just needs/wants a basic .30-30 carbine to kill eating deer.

I have one that I'd sell, I was told it was made in 1959 when I bought it. Shoots very good for me with factory 170 grain ammo. Which is the only ammo that I have fired in it. Both Winchester and Remington.

I got banned on another web site for a debate that happened on this site. That's a first

Have looked at photos of jwp's carbine, and am keeping it in mind. But would like to see others as well....

Hoping for at most $600. And as noted, it doesn't have to be in pristine condition, just shootable.

Already found one post-'63 listed for $495 on a used-gun website, but have never dealt with the site before, and would rather deal with Campfire members. Also know of somebody who picked another post-'63 up for $400, but he doesn't want to sell it....

I've definitely seen a softening on arms pricing. I'd still say that the price point here is more like a wholesale price that my local GS might offer on a trade-in, but that's not going to be the price off the shelf.

Dealing with fire members is another story and different than dealing with a shop owner. There might be someone here who would rather skip the hassle and turn one loose.

Watt's your time frame for this? I'll be going to Tulsa Gun Show first weekend in November and I could look for one there.

Here is one to look at:
Winchester 94 30-30
