Not all 220 grain penetrate well. Fast expanders like Remington Cor'Lok's often fail to give anything but normal penetration. The one I shot at game, I shot a small 2-point mule deer buck quartering away at about 75 yards. The bullet failed to even exit the lungs. The recovered bullet is picture perfect but left considerable to be desired.

I used the 250 grain RN originals and 225 Spitzer Originals in my old 300 H&H back in the day. The 220 Nosler Partition was more accurate and penetrated better and I don't miss the old heavy Barnes bullets. The originals were (and are) ok in their heaviest weights but core separation is always a possibility. I still have a bunch in 358 from 250-275 and 300 grain weights. Haven't shot them at game for years as there are better choices now.

About what year would that 220 have been made? Reason I ask is because I have gotten exit wounds on Moose with a box of Core-Lokt 220's from the 1970's

Mike, I assume they were from that time period. The deer was shot mid 1980's IIRC. They were bulk bullets for reloading. I have studied bullet construction and realize Remington quite their COR-LOKT original design for their pointed soft point bullets in the 1970's and went to standard cup and core design but kept their original design for their round nose offerings.

Not aware of anything commercial anymore like the other folks mentioned. If you’re looking for 250 grain bullets for a 30-06 the Hawk 250 grain round tip might be your huckleberry. Supposedly the Hawk bullets are similarly built to the old Barnes original. Pure copper jackets and pure lead core. Not bonded but they seem to stick together. Just keep in mind that the pure copper jackets are a bit stickier than guilding metal conventional bullet jackets and build pressure faster. A phone call to them will provide any and all information you need.

Kinda wondering why anyone needs a 250 grain ‘06 bullet?

Yes. Barnes made ammo and bullets in 250 gr. If I need something that heavy I go with 240 gr Woodleigh softs. They were designed to shoot Buff in Australia.

Thanks, Tom
