I've done lots of big game hunting here (Montana) but I really miss waterfowl hunting. I'm from CA and hunted duck, geese and pheasant in the rice fields around Colusa/Yuba City for most of my life. Since moving to Montana, I haven't done a single waterfowl hunt and it's starting to get close to that time of year.
I've never hunted rivers or really any water other than small ponds and flooded rice fields (for duck/geese) and dry rice fields for pheasant. Is there anything like that in the greater Bozeman area? I have heard that the Canyon Ferry area is good, and I have a bit of land with a cabin not far from there, but it looks like I'd need a boat (which I don't have) or a good retriever (ditto) to hunt that area.
Any tips would be appreciated.
