Like pickup trucks, boats should be bought through a business. Depreciated over a time schedule and replaced, when the depreciation it complete. Buying for entertainment is a fools game!

I have always had a couple of boats. A Canoe, a small john boat and a bigger fishing boat. Never regretted any of them. Use them all for fishing or hunting. Financing for extended times though is economic suicide. I have always taken good care of my stuff and don't have to spend a bunch keeping them maintained.

Boats and snowmobiles are 2 of the worst investments. Before someone tries to correct that comment, you do invest money in a boat or snowmobile. Unless they are bought at a lower than valued price, you won’t be making money on them as they don’t appreciate in value. If you want one and will use it, they can be a lot of fun, but most boats and snowmobiles are parked next to a trailer in a mobile home park. If you need 20 years to pay for a boat, you can’t afford it. I do have a boat and I have had snowmobiles… Motorcycles can be thrown in there. Never understood the dips--ts who buy new bikes. The world is full if babied, almost new bikes. Under 3k on the odometer, thou$ands in being added on, and selling for a song.
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

I only buy new things if they make me money. My kids have just as much fun on our 20 yr old ski boat. Paid cash from an old friend of the family. Same with my travel trailer. I don't feel the need to keep up with the Jones. I absolutely hate monthly payments!
Outlr school systems really need a mandatory class on balancing a budget and how credit works for or against you. Parents obviously aren't teaching it.

Who needs to be taught to not spend more money than they have? Only an idiot can’t see simple economics!

Added to their 1k 84 month truck payment, that’s full baller for under $1500 a month.

I'm down to one boat now, I've had it for 20 years and i would say i got my money's worth out of it the first three years I owned it. The boat owes me nothing. To those who like to repeat the old saw about, "A boat is a hole in the water you pour money into," I'll say bullschitt. Not if you know what you're doing with then and know how to operate and maintain them properly. Guy down at the local marina told me he could get more for the boat than I paid for it 20 years ago. That's how crazy the market is.
Most of my friends use their boats a lot and get good value for their money. A few, not so much.
I have to wonder if, in high inflationary times, like now, it doesn't make some sense to go long-term paying off something. Hell, in a few years that $395 might be the cost of a bottle of cheap whiskey, then the guys paying off their boats at that price will be laughing at those who paid cash.

We had business classes in HS where we learned to balance a checkbook and read Stock Reports.

I don't disagree with the idiot statement...

I use them less and less but there are people I pay that don't take a debit or CC.

Electronic transfers is what most successful businesses do.
Heavy on the word successful.
Even the USPS recommends not mailing checks.

Heavy on the word successful. Clueless 60 Let me give you a scenario. I run a machine shop, I need some locktite and drill bits and send a worker over to a local machine supply store. DO I send them a electronic transfer or do I give him a company check for the amount owed?

No doubt! 13 years of school. 4+ years of college. Most never get taught how to manage the money they are taught to earn. Beyond 401k, maybe. Big salary, fancy house, Porsche, boat............ No a dime to their name!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 Waiting for someone to come bragging on the virtues of debt. 3, 2, 1...
