Because of John Barnsness I am now an extremely happy consumer of Ramshot Hunter in my 30-06 & Accurate Magpro in the 7mm Remington Magnum and 300 Winchester Magnum. Velocities and accuracy are excellent. Also his advice on the use of Magnum primers with these powders for consistency

Yup! An article of JB's convinced me to try Ramshot Hunter in my 30-06, and it has worked out GREAT.

Thanks, guys.

I got lucky and was one of the first gun writers to be able to thoroughly test the then-new Ramshot powders made in Belgium. The owners of Western Powders in Miles City, Montana, which started as a supplier of dynamite for local coal mines, eventually became distributors of smokeless powder for various other companies, including Hodgdon and DuPont.

Eventually they decided to distribute their own Ramshot line of powder, but they didn't have much of a budget for promotion, so only invited writers within a day's drive of Miles City. We had to pay for our own travel, but they'd put us up and feed us. They also "bribed" us with two days of prairie dog shooting--with ammo they loaded.

I was one of the gun writers invited, because I live only a 5-hour drive from Miles City. Eileen came too, and we had a great time--and were very impressed with the ammo. I got to take home enough powder to thoroughly test in several cartridges, and various ways. It was very clean-burning compared to other spherical powders, and also resulted in fine accuracy. Then I ran some temperature tests during winter, and found it was also far more temp-resistant than traditional sphericals. So I wrote up my results--and continued to try 'em in other rounds for handloading articles in various magazines.

Have also noticed that prices for the Belgian Ramshot powders have stayed reasonable during this latest "shortage."

So far I’ve used Hunter and Magnum a decent amount and like the stuff just fine. Nowadays I’ll grab it since it’s really get the price at bay as well.

Hunter in the 22-250 w/75's, 243 w/85's, and 270Win w/140's. Magnum in a 257Wby w/95's & 100's and a 243AI w/105's. If I didn't have a fair amount of H335 already I'd nab a bunch of TAC or ExTerminator for 223's as well.

They're clean, they're accurate, and I can run any of them through a Dillon 550 or a Harrells Culver with mind-numbing accuracy. What's not to love?
