I think luck is huge part of any competition… All classification shooters are within a point or 2 of the win… some are faster on the trigger..

Agreed, It seems some days you can't do anything right, but other days you can't do anything wrong!

Exactly the reason that I always take a good shooting .22 rifle to the range to warm up with, as I can't think of any good reason to waste centerfire ammo if you're having one of those can't do anything right days.

Cool. I’m impressed.

Of course, I had to try many loads, playing with my new at the time 6.5-284. Hawkeye borescope shows some throat changes after 400 rounds. It still shoots as good as it ever did. I was guessing a thousand round life. With what you were doing, I can see a 700 round life.

I wonder if the PRC will be as hard on barrels, how much is case design vs. heat. Guess time will tell.

For the record, a nula in 6.5 prc (or a converted clr) will only hold 2 down - one possible reason to go 6.5/284 in that platform.

I'm a fan, well before the Creedmoor and PRC became popular.

I played with switching barrels on Savage actions back then. Had a Benchmark and a Bartlein, they didn't do quite what I wanted. Next up was a Rock Creek, and yeah, it shoots with that one.

Best shots made on game include an antelope at 425, a whitetail at 596, and a cow elk at 650 yards. It likes the Berger 140gr VLDH.

I see no reason to make a change.

Have also had great results with the 140 Berger VLD Hunter at 6.5-284/6.5-06 velocities....

Great article in Sports Afield, Mule Deer. Looking forward to the RLN write-up. That's a sweet rifle, the quintessential NULA pretty much - Model 20 in 6.5-284. And, the nostalgia/meaning involved is something many of us Loonys can relate to. Made me think of just how much grief I've processed through firearms owned by loved ones over the years. Never really occurred to me before. Just sort of took it for granted. Sorry for the loss of your buddy.

Thanks!

The SA article was more about Tom, while the RLN article is more about the 6.5-284, and mid-sized 6.5mm cartridges in general.
