Totally agree with BSA on that. A tikka in 270 with a burris. Do anything you want inside 500 for under 1000 bucks.

Pretty much what I'd recommend to a deer hunter here that wants a good-quality all-rounder inside of $1,000. Try 2-3 factory loads and you'll likely find something decent. Shoot some steel at 200/300/400 every so often to supplement your regular rimfire practice and you'll be better equipped and more prepared than 90% of the other hunters in the woods.

Love my 270. But I like 140s. Flat shooting like the 130, but little more oomph.
I also load 180 game kings for my 06. I know there is a lot of hate or better or newer 30 cal. But according to my ballistic calculator. It’s still at 2100 fps at 500 yards.
I’ll put that into simple comparison. that’s still better than a 30/30 with 170gr at point blank. And you can’t tell me you’d feel underguned shooting something point blank with a 30/30

All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I’m sure you do, hope you’re using 1/2” thick plates
