The old red rubber farm hoses were great. Can't find them now.

Sure you can. They seem indestructible but I gave mine twenty year old one away as it was too heavy and hard on plants and flowers when I dragged it over them.

Can’t say that I have, but every one of those I have come across is a “compromise”. Yes they are lighter/smaller, but they just don’t hold up. If you want something to throw in the camper or to occasionally water flowers on the porch, they are great. For something that needs to last, and get routinely dragged across the yard, look elsewhere. I know you already knew that. Like anything, it’s “horses for courses”.

I like the idea of collapsible hose, but have had no luck finding one with any durability.

Bought one at Walmart made by a company called SnoJoe. Came with a 2-year warranty, so we gave it a try. It split open in less than 2 weeks. I called the company, and a new one was delivered the next day. Impressive!

The replacement lasted 3 weeks until it started gushing where it attached to the coupling.

Another phone call and another one arrived the next day. So far so good, but I'm not holding my breath.

Those expandable hoses are junk. All of them.

I never had so many hose problems until the last 5 years.

Seconded- and the flow rate through them is pitiful. I never buy a hose under 5/8 ID.

California mandated that brass is hazardous. Hoses can't have brass fittings so they use some other metal that tends to stick and can be very hard to screw off and on. What happens in CA tends to spread across the country. Now it's hard to find real brass fittings that are easy to turn.

I saw some with anodized AL fittings. I don't trust that one bit.

Flexilla.

Used daily around the farm. Never had anything come close to the durability. Kink free too.

Is the expandable stuff any good?

Got 10 years plus on a couple 100 footers. Pricey, but the best hose I ever bought.

This! I had 800' of garden hose at work and these held up and remained flexible in the cold.

Craftsman Lifetime Guarantee hose 50’ and 100’ lengths here. Guarantee is worthless, but I’ve been using them for 25 years and they’re none the worse for the wear.

Yep. They used to put the 100’ on sale for $39, and the 50’ for $19. I’m probably good for the next 20 years…

For those that don’t have them, try that Briggs Stratton hose, or the Dramm if uou don’t like black hands. They last….

The original Craftsmen lifetime are amazing. I wish they were still available!

My hose get drug all over the place, they don’t get stretched out and left in one position. The expandable ones I have tried lasted less than to years and hybrid pvc coated suck! YMMV. MIne Hasn’t!

By far the best lawn/garden hose that I’ve owned is a green “heavy duty” Swan brand hose. Even in cool weather it’s soft and spools off with very little memory.

I do not know which brand , but I have four heavy duty hoses that are now going on 15 years old. I take them inside every fall and hang them in the cellar. Those expanding hoses are nice for the women folk , but in the end , they just plain suck!
