I just won an auction for an airgun that came with a Leupold M8 6 power scope. The scope has a few minor dings and has a plumb color finish. This normally means that it is an older one. How old is my scope (approx) and are they more robust than the current production? Also, will this scope hold up to air rifle recoil? I know some scopes have issues, being air rifles recoil differently than regular rifles. Either way the warranty should cover it, but I'd rather not go that route if I can avoid it.

Leupold should be able to date it for you from the serial number.

Too close for irons, switching to scope...

How is the parallax at air gun distances?

Haven't had time to check it yet, but I'm assuming it is set for 100yds. I'm not sure what is done to set them up for 50yds. If I remember right, the focus is set for the crosshairs and the objective is set for parallax. Do I have that correct, or am I oversimplifying things?

The eyepiece is used to make the reticle sharp to your eye. The objective puts the target "on the reticle" and this is perfect at only one distance, so to change this ideal distance the objective needs to be adjusted.

If it were mine, I’d pull that scope before I shot it and sell it off, then buy an airgun rated model. If you like 6x, the good ol’ SWFA is perfect in just about every way. $209 on sale.

What type of air rifle PCP doesn't have the spring? If it was mounted and used on a springer maybe its already toast and will need to go back. SWFA is a pretty good choice. Not sure Leupold actually makes an air rifle rated scope.

Good advice, as the air gun recoil forces are far different than a conventional rifle.

It's not a springer. It is a CO2 cartridge type. A Hammereli 850 that came with a large type CO2 cartridge, an adapter that allows you to the smaller type CO2 cartridges (I got a few of those included also), and some other odds and ends including some pellets (22 cal). I'm assuming the effects will be the same as a PCP style rifle.

10yd parallax, unerring repeats, tracking, zero retention and 2+ Mil's of erector for every (1) ounce of weight,is tough to not run with. I likely have a "few". Hint................

Okay, so not a springer, but the SWFA 6x is still a top choice if a fixed 6 meets your needs/wants/notions. Given the limited velocity of that rifle, I can’t imagine needing more Xs. You can depend on it tracking accurately if you like to dial instead of holding over.

That looks like a pretty accurate plinker, if Airgun Depot is to be believed.

I read that review and was surprised the auction didn't go higher. I figured I won the auction for what the scope is worth or only slightly higher.

I'm not sure if I am going to keep the scope or not yet. I have several spares I can use, so I may let it go, but it is too early to tell right now. I have a Balvar 3-9, a Bausch & Lomb 4000, a Burris Signature 2.5-10, and finally a Pentax Whitetail Unlimited 6-18 (basically a Burris FF (USA)), with the final 2 having adjustable objectives which I could then set them for the proper parallax. I guess I need to see if the CO2 rifles are hard on scopes or not.

I have 5 or 6 Cabelas Instincts too as I was getting them for $250 for the 3-9, a little over $300 for the 4.5-14, and slightly higher for the 6-18 and 6.5-20. That military/veteran discount made them a steal at the time.

Using an 'Airgun rated' scope applies to Spring-Piston. That CO2 is not going to have any extra forces on a scope.

The Firing cycle - if you will, will be like a pump up airgun, just noise, almost no vibration or recoil.........using an AO scope on your rifle will be akin to using one for a 22 rimfire. It's purely about what distance you will be using.

65BR, just finished up on some research and you are correct. The springer coming to the end of its stroke is what is destroying the scopes. Now I just need to see if I got anything that can be adjusted that low. If not, I may need to find a more suitable scope. Previous owner probly had issues with accuracy and assumed it was the scope or rifle instead of not low enough parallax and then not mounting the rifle the same every time.

I have been told that ALL leupolds are air gun rated,Truth? i dont know.
If it's not a springer than any scope will work.

The article I read said all Leupold, Burris, and all except 2 Bushnells are airgun rated. The other companies on the list didn't make the cut.
