Howa is a little chunky in the forearm and pistol grip for my taste. Look at a browning x bolt hunter a very nice petite tack driver

I know and he knows the Americans can and do shoot well. Just not what he's looking for.

He's also not looking to spend 1000-1500.00

Not many 500-700 rifles left out there, but there are a few and thats more his budget.

Also not many 7mm-08s on shelves in SD or MN these days.

Crazy what Tikka SS Lites are bringing these days.

Smart friend. Keep your eyes open for a T3/T3x stainless lite. They can be found used for reasonable money. I paid something like $500 for mine and love it. I would not let it go for that though. It's proven itself very well. Has one bull elk under its belt now and shoots lights out. Very light to pack around too. What more could a guy want or ask for??

I have a NIB Weatherby Super Predator Master, no cheap plastic stock. It won’t be cheap.

So buy a Ruger American and put a $300 B&C stock on it and go shoot! Should meet his budget and spec's.

Just my 2¢.

Might Also Check Around For a Howa Super Light. They have a Wood Stock Version..And Are Finally Out In 7-08.Seems They Weigh In At 5.6 Pounds.. Midway Or Midsouth Had Them For $589.. But Where Sold Out By The Time I Found Them..Was Gonna Pick One Up.. I'm Sure Others Will Have Them. But Might Be Little Tough Finding Them For Under $600 But They Are Out Their...The Stocky Stocked 6.5 Creed I Have Has Shot Very Good...
