Started with the Montana and the 162 ELDM. Was passed hood word it’d handle the jump well and it seems like the word was spot on.

Started with 17

Tried one set of Hunter loads before the rain shut me down.

Pretty sure I should be able to come up with something usable. The Montana is sweet but short on space. Still I think the 162 around 2700 should be a great deer killer.

You fellas must think I’ve got handrails attached to my shoulder blades grin

I’m still figuring out this Montana. It’s like aiming a broomstick it’s so light compared to the rest of my lumber wagons.

162's from the bench with a Montana?

My fallopian tubes hurt just thinking about it.

It’ll shake a uterus…

It’s actually not too bad. Just learning to manhandle it seems lot better than a Conway Twitty easy touch.

I love the old Amax 162 in my Montana. Laid in a huge supply back when Hornady stopped making them for a short spell but I'm just about out. Probably make it through this hunting season and next year need to work up something else. I want to try TTSXs.

Does a number on deer - I'm using RE15 tho. It's a fly rod of death.

as far as i know?, the 162 ELD-M and the old 162 Amax are the exact same bullet... cept the M has a more heat resistant plastic tip...

I ran one of the 46.5 Hunter loads across the chrono and came up with a slow 2580 but it shot decent enough.

See if I can stuff a little more powder in there to get the pressure up a skosh. I'd really like to be in the 2700 give or take range. I am sure 17 would get me there, but I don't have a bunch of it.

And pull the dies apart. Getting the darned ring from seating. Neck tension seems spot on so maybe a little polish will clean it up.

How much powder compression is there when seating the bullet?

Nothing yet..

I should say nothing to speak of yet. Might be on the base, but not compressed.

In the .308" 168 grain versions I believe the ELD-M has a longer boat tail and slightly shorter bearing surface.

OAL looks real short beretzs. How far off the lands are you running them? Also, pharmy tried getting that bullet up to speed and failed, I believe. Or maybe it was the ELDX version? Of course, we know Tikka barrels are known for being slow. I messed around with the 162 ELDX in my 7mm08, hoping for 2,700 fps at least, but didn't quite make it there. Bullet shot damn well though. Keep us posted on what you find. Thanks!!

150 ELD-X at 2790 is no slouch.

Obey lawful commands. Video interactions. Hold bad cops accountable. Problem solved.

I shot 40 rounds of 7-08 via a Montana a few weeks ago, it wasn’t pleasant. The recoil even broke the scope that sat upon it.

With 162’s and rl17,

43gr- 2650
44gr- 2690
44.5gr- 2722
45gr- 2740

That's a pretty good one pharm. I even like 150gr Nosler partitions.
