I have a model 20 in .260 rem that i carry everyday, truck, tractors, buggies etc. The rifle is in need of a facelift. Certainly doesnt have to be done cuz it still shoots lights out but i just wanna tune it up while i still can. Originally i was thinkin stock paint and may be another barrel in 260 but with a little more length. Now iam leaning toward stock paint, upgrade trigger or clean it up some and rebarreling to 6mm Creed,6.5 Creed or 308. Im not a handloader so this is big part of decision. 6mm Creed is top of the list. What yall think? Leave it be ? Or overhaul?

Mr Forbes is not building any more. If a new rifle is what you desire, sell the ULA and get one. Or keep the ULA and get one.
I'd only let the guys at Mr Forbes old shop in WV touch it if it were my rifle.

Leave it be and relish every scar and mark on it as they represent previous adventures.
By all means go get a pretty rifle...but don't turn your back on your reliable old friend in the name of cosmetics.

If it remains accurate, I'd leave it as is. I have one similar to yours in .308 that's been shot a great deal, mostly for load development. Some cosmetic wear from mountain elk hunts, but it's as accurate as ever.

I'd do either of the Creeds if that's what you want, and have it painted as well. Stuff that gets used needs "refurbishment" occasionally if you want it to last.

I would take that money that I was going to spend on a makeover and buy ammo since you don't handload and call it good. Paint the stock if you want, but I wouldn't put a new barrel on a gun that shoots great just to change caliber. You can always make those changes later when you need a new barrel.

The first question is how much ammo do you have? If it shoots lights out and you are happy with it, leave as is and freshen the stock. If you are short on ammo and worried about factory ammo, go 6.5 creed, send to the guys in WV that worked for Melvin to replace the barrel and freshen the stock

I am in the camp of leaving it as is. If you decide to switch it to a 6 Creed, ammo is readily available. Interestingly is was often available during the last big rush when more popular chamberings weren't.

Best option is start handloading. To Late in the game for all that. Have about 500 rds on hand at the moment.Probably last me a year and a half or so.Il pick away at stockpiling some more .Thinkin im just gonna leave it alone other than shootin and enjoying the rifle til something has to be done.I bought the rifle second hand so no idea on round count other than the 8-900 ive run thru it so far. Thanks

Sounds like a great idea. Have your 6mm twisted 1-7” and not look back. If you want new paint go for it if not don’t worry about it. It’s just paint and doesn’t mean anything. Kinda like several of these guys who give recommendations. Most of them kill less than 5 deer a year and want to advise others on what they should use.
