Anyone ever get into buying the Amazon wholesale pallets? Been getting ads on them in my news feed lately, must have triggered the algorithms somehow. Just curious if anyone has ever rolled the dice on them, ads make it seems like it's a win win for both Amazon and the consumer, I've got my doubts.

When I looked into it, I learned it's going to be a waste of time and money for a small fish. Basically Amazon wants to offload truckloads of pallets at a time. They won't sell you one or a few. So you end up buying from a middle man. That increases cost and lowers your chances of making money on quality gear depending on if that middle man sorts the contents. Apparently before covid it was lucrative. Covid and everyone at home looking for a side hustle ruined the profit margins by driving up the prices of the pallets. I don't think it's a coincidence that now it's being advertised. Probably folks losing interests and the ones that set up large enough organizations to buy truckloads of pallets need someone to sell to.

What DID surprise me is that the vast majority of returned items get dumped by the majority of manufacturers/brands. The profit margins on items must be insane to be able to absorb complete write-off every time something is returned.

Living in Ohio up until recently, we had a salvage store not to far away that we visited up there. They bought pallets of salvage goods, mostly food with some paper products and household items and resold for a lot cheaper than the supermarket, it was a thriving place, parking lot was always packed, especially after the last illegitimate regime installation that caused the cost of everything to skyrocket. Wish we had one down here in KY.

Here's the thing, buying pallets can be hit or miss. It's really a game of volume and risk tolerance. Sometimes you score big and make a killing reselling the items, but other times you might end up with products that are hard to move.

Seems like a fools game. If you don’t think some of these ‘middle men’ aren’t going through them and pulling out high value items ahead of time I have a bridge to sell you.

locally we have a company called BIDFTA

check out their website, bidfta.com

They have warehouses the size of 2 of 3 football fields full of this stuff - think of them storing the Arc at the end of Indiana Jones.

Somewhere along the way, someone figured out they could buy truckloads of this stuff from Amazon, WalMart, Lowes, HomeDepot, etc and sell it , If I need anything , I check their website first.

I've been buying stuff from them for years now , picked up two rugs yesterday from them for a total of $27. One was a 9' X 12' oriental rug that would probably sell for well over $150 at a big box store. I'm picking up some faux leather car seat covers this afternoon from a different spot.

Its crazy how much of this stuff is out there. One warehouse is overwhelming, and this company has like 30 of them.

I would recommend doing some serious research before jumping in. Consider things like storage space, reselling platforms, and your ability to manage inventory. You might also want to get some solid shelving solutions if you're planning to store a lot of items. I recently checked out rackbuy.co.uk and they have a variety of storage solutions that could come in handy for a venture like this.

Sounds like a sucker bet for those attracted to the idea of making money with little effort and no idea of how much effort is really involved.

Used to be one Scratch and Dent food store around here.
And one place that sold other overstock/damaged stuff.

Now there are 3 or 4 with food, probably more than that with other goods. One has a Facebook site where they auction the better stuff, you can stop in and shop the rest.

I was at a wedding this summer and when we left our hotel we did a walk through of the small town we were in. They were having a town Sunday sale and had goods out on the street. The wife saw racks of clothing and wanted to stop. While I was watching her rifle through the clothing racks I noticed a nearby shop that had some sporting goods stuff in the window. I walked into the store and was looking around and it was the store owner and myself in the store and I ask him where he was getting his inventory because there was a little bit of everything in there. He told me that he buys Amazon returns. First I had ever heard of it. He told me that he had been doing it for about 5 years and this was his Brick and Morter store but most of his sales were online. We visited there for about 30 minutes and he told me how the whole system worked. And yes he said it was a hit and miss deal when buying pallet loads of returns because it is a crap shoot as far as what you are getting. He buys 40' containers of stuff and has a warehouse he stores and sorts the stuff in. I ask him is it was profitable and he said yes for the most part. He said that some stuff takes time to move and other stuff sells as soon as he posts it. Said he ships all over the US and Canada.
