Kind of sidesteps climate change and factors in the exploding feral pig population in Hawaii and rolls in more immediate human factors. It's interesting that it comes from LA. Anyone from Arizona, there is a mention of how AZ handled the feral pig problem. How did they pull that off?

There isn’t and never was a massive feral pig problem in AZ that I am aware of. There’s probably just a few isolated spots that have them. If there was a problem with feral pigs people would be out shooting the hell out of them.

Feral horses are a bigger issue here.

Saying the fires were due to climate change is a statement that they want more tax dollars to do nothing.

I heard that the power company has not been maintaining power lines. 80+ MPH winds bingo instant flame thrower.

Is there any power line except underground that would withstand 80MPH wind?

Lahaina translates to "cruel sun" . The fields above town were once agricultural and left to grow grass and weeds, that allowed the fire to run unimpeded. The town was densely packed of mostly wood structures. Add in high winds, dry conditions, fire and boom. It was series of events and conditions, human choices, not pigs, not a climate crisis.

There are questions about whether the power company did adequate preparatory work to turn off the auto reset equipment that automatically restores electric service to an area after an interruption and whether they should have preemptively shut off power to areas likely to see downed power lines start fires.

Yes. If Maintained. - 38 years in the Industry.

Every place they've blamed the Utilities are places controlled by Leftist tree huggers.

EVERY one.

Same crap in California. There is also the issue that no sirens worked. They have 400 alone on that island.

When I visited the Sonoran Desert in the Phoenix area a few years back, and did some shooting there with my nephew, it appeared to me that you guys have a feral donkey problem, more than anything else.

Nailed it. There is a point at which a fire will build and man can't stop it. I believe I read the combined Hawaiin Islands have less than 100 firefighters. Even if they had 1000 with a fleet of drop tankers you're stopping a fire with winds that strong.

It's incredibly sad the loss of life and loss of history, but ignorance of the power of nature and misguided treehugger policies are fatal combination that needs but a spark.

It's funny how the fires missed ALL the millionaires and the rich and famous mansions and burnt to the ground the regular folks homes.
The ones the rich people have been trying to buy for years to tear down and build their mega mansions.
Also funny how the former lead investigator of the Las Vegas shootings in 2017, John Pelliter,is now the Police Chief of Maui, coincidence?

If you look at Google Earth you can see the whole town is within about a mile of the coast. Think how quickly a fire being fed with 60-80 mph winds would cover that distance of closely packed structures.

The west side of all the islands is the leeward side with the normal trade winds from the NE and it is naturally dry, dry, dry. We lived at Iroquois Point housing area on the west side of the entrance to Pearl Harbor. It was an exciting day when the winds shifted and we got rain with Kona Winds from the southwest.
