So this past weekend we traveled to Colorado for Kacy’s first breed test known as the VJP. It was cool and overcast to start the morning, making the rabbit tracking conditions almost ideal. The day soon heated up making the field work a little more difficult, but she came through with flying colors. She also had a little issue with some raging hormones as she came into heat two weeks ago. This seemed to ramp up her intensity about ten notches which is what caused the judges to ding her one point on the track. They said she was “tracking too fast”. Oh well. She was stellar in the field and cleaned up all the chukars that were left from the previous dogs. I’m very pleased with this pup so far. We hit the ground running and started training for the HZP coming in the fall. Hopefully big things on the horizon.

Congrats on scoring high enough to qualify for the Armbruster! What did she score in track - 9? During the open judging session, did the judges elaborate on how they judged her track? Was she overrunning the track and having to loop back again and again to pick up the scent? Who were the other judges at the test? Have fun working with Kacy this summer and good luck at her HZP!
Pursuit may be, it seems to me, perfect without possession. Robert Kelley Weeks (1840-1876)

Yeah she got a 9 in track. Like I said they thought she “tracked too fast”. On the third track, she tracked it perfectly for about 75-100 yards then poured on the speed out to about 300 yards. She got over a little rise where we had to move up to even see her. Once we could see her, one of the judges (Kevin Quast) said he could see her tracking and she produced another rabbit out there. I guess the other judges said they didn’t see it. I overheard their pow wow and one judge said that you really can’t evaluate a dog past 300 yards 🤷♂️. I think it had to do with the other dogs in the group as they were a lot slower and methodical in their tracking. But also, since she has been in heat she has really ramped up the intensity. Ed Hallowell was our senior judge with a couple apprentices I didn’t know. Anyway, I know that I’m always defensive about my dogs but I guess that’s the nature of the game. She still did great and I’m super proud of her. I guess I was a little spoiled with my male dog when he was a 74 with an 11 in track and use of nose. I would love to go to the Armbruster again but I don’t think I’ll be able to get to Alabama. I’m also going to run my male through this VGP this fall so will probably stick as close to home as possible.

Congrats on the great score at the VJP.
you have a busy year on HZP and VGP testing. I am getting my male ready to VGP this fall. Ran out of time last fall to do.

Congratulations!
If anyone is interested, I'm anticipating pups out of my dogs. Should be ready in September. Dam is NAVHDA GW-013261, Sire is NAVHDA GW-013330. Went 110/Prize 1 NA and 70 VJP, respectively. DM me for additional information. Thanks and good hunting.

Nope. Wish I were but can’t make it to Alabama. Doing HZP in Duchesne UT next month.
