I just won (yesterday) a auction at RIA, which contained two scopes: 1. Unertl 10x Varminter 23,147 serial, which I think is a post ww2 late 40's early 50's production. 2. Redfield T02131 which I have had no luck in dating, but it is a 20x Target scope. Most likely a 3200? I'm guessing that between the two of these, it's probably around $1800-$2200? If they are in good condition with clear glass, possibly more if in excellent or higher condition. They look very nice from the picture. With rings, and the Unertl has the spring.

They are bringing big money for sure. Congrats
I may not be smart but I can lift heavy objects
I have a shotgun so I have no need for a 30-06.....

They are bringing big money for sure. Congrats I won't be reselling them (my heirs might after I die, if they dont appreciate the hobby....) Im just ...really hopping I did not overpay. The hammer for the lot was $823, and included several other items as well , but the two scopes where my only interest. Hopefully, I willbe able to sell the other items to either net-zero, or maybe make a small profit. Three older vintage gun cases, including one leg-o-mutton that appears to be high quality, a mostly complete Winchester Shotgun Cleaning kit that I've found listed on one recently completed ebay listing (best offer taken on a $200 original price) as "Custom Winchester Shotgun Cleaning Kit"? It is an older vintage kit with a wood case/box. Eight shotgun barrel cover/grips that appear to be older english made (at least two of them.) And a 4 gauge bore/barrel micrometer kit that a similar version of retails on Brownells for $650 and I found no other listings to compare to on gunbroker, proxibid, hibid, or ebay. I'll be happy to net-zero, or even be a few dozen dollars in the hole, but if I see each of these other items that I don't want, even based on very conservative pricing, I should net out a few dozen positive. Which would be nice. But, I think for the two scopes themselves, it looks like I stole them for a song and a dance.

Yes, its a Redfield 3200. BTW, you did extremely well on that auction!!! I have to thank RIA for listing it was "Firearm Cases and Accoutraments" , hiding the scopes on the second image, and the auction being towards the end of the day. As well as a certian "only a boomer" would bid on this, and most people of that ilk aren't quite as computer savy and probably missed it completely. There was a total of 152 views on the page, as apposed to thousands or tens of thousands for other items. I'm still in mild shock/giddiness about it and I hope the scopes are as nice in person as they appear to be in the pictures. I'll order a scope case for the Unertl as soon as it arrives, and I look forward to mounting. I will probably put the 20x on my H&R 5200, and exchange the Unertl for the Lyman Super TargetSpot that is on the H&R 451, and put the Lyman on my Savage-Anschutz 10D. 3 years into the hobby, and my first real big auction win. Honestly, who uses the word Accoutraments istead of Accessories????

The Redfield with original box is $800-1,000, and the Unertl with an original box is $1,000+ easily! Me thinks you’ll be in the black profit wise on your investment.

You did really well and you’re right, that they did you a favor with the title of the auction.

"J. Unertl 10x scope. Numbered '23147' and includes screw-in lens covers. No visible crosshair."
Repairing the reticle yourself?

Repairing the reticle yourself? Nope. That'll be about 100-200. Which I'm happy to pay.

Is there any writing on the Unertl like USMC or sniper?
If there is you might reconsider mounting it on anything.

I assume you included RIA's VIG and overpriced shipping ? You got a fair deal but didn't steal anything. The 10x Unertl USMC sniper scope had internal adjustments, the old 8X had externals. The 1.5" varmint is a fine scope with a secret parralax adjustment. By way of comparison, I have sold 4 2" Unertls all mint in the past year for 1200-1800 benjis and 2 3200s for $650 each.

BTW Vintage scopes prices are insane. Yes, they are. and im an addict for period correct and i hate myself for it. But at least i'm learning my pricing and figured it out pretty well, if it is in that good condition I will be happy (1000-1500). And it will appreciate in value as I own it, so ... just another egg in another basket.

They're almost, if not, near-mint to mint. I can't put these on my guns, they are to [bleep] nice.... Only bit of disappointment is the serial and magnification on the scope and the case don't match. Case is from a 16x. Other items: Looks like 100% hand-made sxs barrel covers, very well made. Winchester box is a bit beat up, but as expected (missing some stuff as noted.) The shotgun gauge micrometer set is like mint with papper. The leg-o-mutton case is a bit more worse for wear than the pictures showed (and the pictures didn't show the big ass sticker on the back,) but someone who knows what they are doing should be able to recover it readily. Found the mfr for the little brown case, metal name plate was covering it up. And the big black one is the Badger.
