So how do the production rifles stack up against one another? It is very likely I will be in the market for a lighter recoiling cartridge. Since I already have a Sako, with which I am most pleased, I am leaning towards the Sako 85. But Kimber looks appealing as well. Since I already have a Leupold 2.5x8, I can spend a little more on a rifle. I hope to keep the entire purchase, including bedding and lightening of trigger, to no more than 2K. Even the Browning BAR Safari is in the running if its recoil is sufficiently less. I will not be buying a magnum caliber.

I picked up at a gun show recently an Ithaca LSA-55 in .243 that was imported from Tikka in Finland by Ithaca in the early 70's.
No doubt about it it simply blows all my Remingtons(which i own several) and other rifles out of the gun safe in total quality including things such as the fine walnut stock, superb bluing, and very fine machining tolerances.
So yea some production rifles are obviously much better than others.
But for two grand you are willing to spend i think you can do very well indeed.
