Any suggestions for someone who will checker a laminated stock? Nothing fancy just a couple of simple panels on grip and forend. Need some grip when it is wet.
Thanks

Thanks I've never had any work done by this woman, but I've heard that she does good work. Former Kimber of Oregon employee. I'd email her and ask for pictures, lead time and cost. http://www.checkering.com/how-do-i-get-my-stock-checkered.html

I checked with Ahlman's and they prefer to do basket weave on laminated stocks. Thanks for the replies.

What did you have them checker? Ahlman's did a Boyd's laminate and a plain walnut rifle stock for me. Good work and very reasonable.

I have seen checkering by Sherry Abraham and it was very good. Reasonably priced too. GD

Some references, but do they do laminates?
I did one for a gunsmith. Told him not to ask again. Glue is hell on tools, each laminate layer, the grain goes a different direction. Easy to chip diamonds. It can be done I guess though.

Big Stick had the best advice for laminates. Mask of what you don't want and spray with truck bed liner

The people who checker laminates use carbide cutters with power tools.

It was 20 LPI regular checkering, not basketweave style, and turn around time was less than 90 days.

I've checkered a couple for myself and didn't find them too difficult but the pattern was simple and coverage not too extensive (kind of a Ruger 77 copy). I have had as much trouble with some fiddleback walnut. GD
