Is there a Marine unit based in AK? I was up there with 4th Recon on the I&I staff. Now I guess they moved E co 4th recon to Joliet IL.

Been 25 years since i was with them but still kind of disappointing

I retired from the USAF in 1992 out of Elmendorf AFB. At that time there was a small group assigned to the base. I do not remember what their mission was. They must of worked close to the base hospital because we would often meet up with a few of them in the hospital dining hall during lunch time. Nice guys, was always fun exchanging career stories with them.

That was company E, 4th Recon. Our building was right next to flight medicine building. Cops were called on us all the time. Alarm would go off in the armory and they would close the gates until I did an inventory, etc. Air force did not like us

There used to be marines on Shimia. We would see them occasionally at the PX on Ft. Richardson. I understand it was some kind of navy security. I left Alaska in 1976 but they were still using the PX up until I left.

The Corps should have left E Co- Recon Bn in Alaska. Alaska is the closest state to Russia and the Bear is always roaming.
It was there for a reason. Another sign that civilian leadership is flawed as to influence over the military.
