I am looking at a Kimber Montana in .270 Win. Do any of you have first-hand experience with this rifle? Reliability and accuracy? Thanks

Lots of Kimber shooters here. They are great rifles. Are you looking new or used? What’s the sale price?

Either. I saw one in a local gun store in 300wmfor $1200. It was new, but I don't think I want the 300wm. When they first came out years ago I almost bought one in .270wsm.

I absolutely love my Montana in 7-08 but a LA .270 doesn't horn me up much. If the price was right, I'd prob buy to flip or re-tube to something interesting. Make sure the magazine doesn't bind the action, bed the lug - shoot it.

Not in 270, but 325. I had it for 15yrs or so and sold it last winter. It was light and reliable.

So - are you looking for commnets on the Kimber MT 270 win, Kimber MT 300 WM or Montanas in general?
I've not owned a MT 300 WM but have 4-5 Montanas in my safe including a 270 win. The LA 270 with full power loads is about my limit in the Montana. Mine is accurate, light, dependable, and flat shooting with a 129 LRX.

I have a Montana and a Hunter in 270. Mighty fine rifles. Had three other Montana 270’s in the past.
I’ll probably buy another as a backup for my backup! 🤣

I’ve got a Kimber 84m 308 that is a very early model and it shoots wonderfully with about anything I’ve stuffed in it. At one point its firing pin spring became weak and had to be replaced. Kimber customer service sucked. But that was probably 15+ years ago. No idea if that’s changed. I’ve got a Montana 7/08, my cousin has an 84 select grade 308 and I had a 30/06 select grade…. They ALL shoot extremely well. By extremely well I mean often shooting 3 shots inside .5 moa and often a bit better.

Good rifles. I think they are best in short action cartridges, wouldn't want one in 270. They are exceptionally light. Mine was in 308 and with the right scope and mounts on it weight was still under 6 lbs. Recoil was a bit more than a standard 30-06 at that weight. A 30-06 or 270 in my opinion would have more recoil than I'd want.
Mechanical accuracy is good, but few people can shoot a 5 lb rifle as well as an 8 lb rifle.
I came to the conclusion that it was just too light and sold mine. Something around 7 lbs scoped is as light as I want.
Most people don't really want the truth.
They just want constant reassurance that what they believe is the truth.

I don’t have a montana. But I bought the hunter for my boy as it’s probably the lightest rifle out there for around $800. I’ve heard about kimber roulette…I’m a bad gambler, I should have know better. Had to go back to kimber to get the chamber polished as it was scratching brass and had to get small base dies for the CM as it does not like reloads. Very tight chamber. Not impressed Tikka for the win
All of them do something better than the 30-06, but none of them do everything as well.

I had an 8400 Montana in 270. It was a great shooting rifle but didn't fit me very well. I sold it here and bought a Hunter in .270, an 84L. Its a great shooting gun and fits me much better. I would love to have a Montana 84L in 270 that shoots like this rifle does.

I have 3 84m Montanas short actions and one in 84L 30-06 flavor. Mine is a newer green one with factory threaded barrel and brake. With the break on the Ole '06 is pretty mild all things considered. Sans break she gets a little lively. My 84L shoots st or sub MOA with several loads that she likes. Be careful with the Kimber rifles, they are sweet and addicting. Before you know it you'll have a safe full of them and your other rifles will be watching from the sideline.

I started with 1 and now have 4, plus have owned another 3 or 4. The 84M are about the nicest SA M70 type action in existence in my opinion. Of course I may be a bit biased.

Started with a 7-08 and now have the 6.5 and 338. They’re pretty damned nice little rifles.

I have a Kimber Montana 84L in 270, as well as KM in 223, 243, 308, and 300wsm. The 270 is sleek like the 84m, but longer due to the 24" barrel, action, and slightly longer length of pull. I prefer the 84m, but bought the 270 due to an oldtimer giving me 1,200 .277 bullets to reload. After the typical Kimber tinkering, it shoots very well, and is reliable, taking caribou and moose with it. It's an excellent rifle, but if I had to choose one, I would stick with my KM in 308. Just my 2 cents...
