Panning for gold on the Kenai River after work last night, didn't take long to limit out and also let 9 go, some foul hooked and smaller fish I didn't want to keep

"Casting out for action
Rod n reel reaction
Lips are ripped and torn away
Flipping in a hurry
Intoxicated fury
Snaggery on the Kenai hey
Snagg -err-y
Cannot stop the snaggery"

(Heavy pounding guitars downstroke chugging)

'bout 2 1/2 hours Congo line dipping around low tide, near mouth of Kenai on Sunday. aAl I wanted for this year- have bunch to eat from last year yet.

That slug of fish (195,000) that hit afterwards would have been insane!

Son and I fished at the bridge in Soldotna yesterday. Son landed 5, me 3. The males here HUGE. Also caught a few Russian reds and they were noticeably smaller and went back into the river.
Action was somewhat spotty and we fished for 6 hours.
Drove by the Russian and it was dead.

We got into them on the middle river Thursday afternoon. Quick limits! Picked up a couple more Friday morning but we didn't need many. Only wanted to bring 15 or so home. Let him catch and release for a bit until it was time to head out.

If you are fishing Soldotna bridge, those ARE Russian River reds, for the most part. Fish aren't all one size- some are early returners, others are just smaller.

As I left after dip netting last Sunday- the tide had just started to come in.

We came back saturday afternoon after 10 days on the river, and 1 on the salt with Dan.
Boat Dipnetted with another member and his family one day, caught 66 fish in just a couple hours. The fish box on my Willie was plugged to the top. It was fun, but that's a lot of fish to process at one time.
It's been some outstanding fishing the last week for sure. Easy limits, and big fish too.

At least she is not holding the spinning reel upside down. When I see that I just shake my head.

Monday night was pretty damn good fishing on the Kenai River, 47,459 sockeye/red salmon passed the weir for a cumulative total of 2,111,704 for 2023 so far, the Ak Dept. Fish & Game will quit counting on the 24th and pull the sonar

7pm & second cast of the night, hooked a nice Kenai male sockeye/red salmon, caught & kept 4 more one after another pretty quickly then started letting them go, holding out for a silver for my sixth fish & daily limit, must have let go & lost 15-20 fish before hooking a large fat female red and decided to end the fun and clobbered her, it was just after 9pm

around 8pm I picked up a nice Kenai rainbow trout, one helluva bonus for the night ! I let that beauty go after a quick pic & not long after hooked a decent dolly varden ..... Good times !

Shouldn't the 2nd run be about over by now, those are some incredible numbers for late August Kenai reds.

Had a pretty good push again yesterday and the fishing was excellent, took almost no effort to limit out late last night, should be good fishing again tonight but ya gotta weed out the mallards to get your six brights, probably landed 20 fish to get six nice bright ones, lotsa fun catch & release fishing !
