Last Thursday, I went to see Mom at the home. I'd just been to the Oncologist and gotten cut loose. All tests were negative. I don't have to see the doc for 6 months. I told her the good news. She made some cryptic reply that I did not understand. I asked her to repeat it and her answer was something along the lines of, "Well, that's settled then. I won't have to bury you."
That goes back to a year before. I was obviously not doing well last August. The chemo had ended, and I was barely able to stagger around. I looked horrible. Mom was getting increasingly upset when I'd come to visit. Finally one day I said to her, "Look, Mom. The whole point here is that I get to bury you and not the other way around." I guaranteed her that she was not going to be losing me. It was a bit direct, but Mom and I always cut out the crap with each other. Mom was satisfied with that and stopped fretting.
Last Thursday, I left the home kind of scratching my head. Something was up. Mom has been in hospice since June. There was no particular reason except that she's 96. Her initial response was, "Oh no! Not that crap again." She'd already been through it once and got thrown out because she was too healthy. She finally bought in when I explained we'd be getting a lot of free stuff instead of it being out-of-pocket.
I drove down to the farm Friday and stayed until Sunday. Angus, Moose and Mooselette came. It was the Fall Squirrel Opener. I generally don't hunt squirrel until it cools off a bit, but the guys treat it like a high holiday. I came back on Sunday and dropped off to visit Mom on the way home. She'd totally fallen off the cliff.
They have her on a low dose of morphine to keep her from struggling to breathe. Yesterday, she was in and out. The whole family came. She said she was happy. She said she was feeling all right-- no pain. My best guess is that she was hanging on to make sure I was going to be all right and then decided to check out.
I dearly love the woman. It's been a tremendous ride for her, I am sure there is a host of folks on the other side that have been missing her company. I can't wait for her to be having dinner with Dad again.
Please think of us. I suspect you won't be hearing from me for short while.

Lost my mom a year and a half ago. No matter how old you are it's rough.
Hang in there.

I think you’re trying to tell us that your mom died.
Not, mom.

My prayers headed your way. I lost my Mom on June 12. The only thing that made it easier was that she told me 2 times that she was ready to go. I hope things go as smooth as possible for you and the family. Take care, Rick

Prayers for ya Shaman
Our recent event with mom was similar as far as Hospice etc I 'knew on the day' that I wasn't going to see her alive again as I left. I sat for a couple of hours with my head laying on her, just feeling her last breaths.

You and your family are definitely in our Thoughts and Prayers! Now matter how long or how good the “ride” it’s still difficult to say goodbye to a loved one! memtb

Prayers that she and you find peace. My mom is 86 and on short time. I expect this will be her last year, but I've said that the past 2 years.
I'll sure miss mine when she's gone. There's something special about mothers that nobody else can replace.

It's hard to watch our parents get old. Have had a few scares with my mom over the last few years. Thanks to God she's still here.
Prayers to your family and your mom.

Prayers and God bless Shaman. Other than loosing a child, the loss of a parent is the most painful thing we experience.
