Yeah, and those windows just let in the +100* Santa Ana winds! Oh sheit that brings back memories. The only plus side if you want to call it that, it would clean the smog out of that GD toilet bowl.

70's. Public school. No doors on the bathroom stalls. Buddy o' mine went to take a dump. Two huge black dudes were leaning against the uprights looking at him: "HA HA HA... Home boy takin' a dump..." It was the last time he took a dump at school.

Humidity is admittedly higher there than during a Santa Ana in SoCal, but we had no A/C in our schools growing up.
Every fall when the winds would come, it would suck..............hugely. No A/C in my high school either. Large glass windows. Only time we got of school due to heat was when it hit upper 90's in mid-September one year. Higher temps then in September, than we are having now in August. But hey, that was before "climate change".

Elementary school had no A/C. Middle school was one year old when I landed there in 1980. All the old folks batching that it had A/C, very few homes even had a window unit. High School had no A/C.
Not a big deal to me, then. Since you didn't have it anywhere else. We are all spoiled now.
But... back then school didn't start until Labor day, was over at the end of May. Plus, the OP is in West(?) Texas. Rumor is hot is bigger there.π
On a similar topic. Heard some crap on the radio about the heat and schools. Then they brought up the busses. NO A/C ON THE BUSSES!!!πππππππ Give me a F'n break.
Comparing old schools to new ones, me posting on school A/C on a thread about West Texas heat, not really relevant.
But come on! School busses without A/C? The windows still come down and the bus goes 55. The marshmallows who think that's bad should have rode my bus. One of the first on,it had been running about 30 minutes still an icebox. As it filled up the windows would freeze up, on the inside. Some mornings the windshield would barely stay clear. Snow didn't melt off the floor. No one complained, it's what we had. The ones our parents rode were certainly worse.
About 6th grade they got a new one. Good heat, and a RADIO!
Parents who say they have good kids..Usually don't!

When I was a kid in the late 50's/60's, we didn't have school in August. It didn't start until after Labor Day when the worst of the heat was over.
