Grants Pass has one (140 miles away). Have not been to a drive in since 1987.

One near here. $3 a head. Used to be older movies but they thrived during the shutdown and now have current movies. Dude that owns it is a hawk about looking in your rig for cups and bottles when you go through the gate, no outside food or drinks and he’ll throw you out if he suspects you brought your own. We go occasionally, fun for the boy.

My hometown had 2 when I was a kid.
The old "Moonlight Drive In" sat kinda out on the edge of town and showed mostly "B" westerns and cheesy horror shows.
The "Dogwood Drive In" had current movies and was THE spot for "lovers".
After the Moonlight closed, the Dogwood set up a second screen and became the Dogwood Twin Drive In.

Saturday nights in the summer were a big social affair.
A couple of us guys had a pickup. Park it backwards and set comfy chairs in the bed was popular.

Man , I love Drive Ins. Bedford and Altoona both had them years ago but they closed up. Sign of the times, I guess, both are commercial property or housing developments now. A damn shame. frown
The Silver up in Richland still goes every summer, I believe they’re 3rd of 4th Generation owned. Many times Mom and Dad put me and my brother in jammies and headed over there to see John Wayne. We were usually out halfway through the second film, hence the jammies! But I can remember The Old Man carrying me into bed.
I know we saw “True Grit” and “Big Jake” there. “Rooster Cogburn”, “Walking Tall”, “Jaws” and “Slapshot”, and probably many more that I don’t remember.
The hell of it is, there ain’t many movies I wanna see coming out now. But every now and then they have car movies and a cruise in weekend.
I’m a car nut, and seeing those old street pounders gets my blood going! “Two Lane Blacktop”, “Vanishing Point” or such gets us Motörhead’s there from miles around! grin We go and I drool over stuff and kick myself for parting with “my baby”, my ‘72 Monte Carlo. frown
To me, it’s an important part of Americana, and I feel a little bad that something I loved, my kids won’t experience.

Carol And I, most of our dates were going to the Drive In.
She’s my buddies younger sister. I knew her well enough to say hello at the dance, but that was about it. But one night I ran into her at the dance, and asked her if she wanted to see “Footloose” at the Bedford Drive In Friday.
She said yes. So Friday evening I picked her up at home, and we went to the drive in.
Funny story. The Old Man always parked the car, and then got out a bottle of windex to clean the glass. I did the same, while Carol sat in the car. While I was doing the windshield, I saw Danny parked 3 rows back! He tailed me to watch over Carol, I guess! eek
So I took my bottle of windex and paper towels, told Carol “I’ll be right back”, And cleaned his windshield too! grin His date was a sixpack. What’s that tell
You? grin
There was a drive in in Tacoma when I was at Ft Lewis, and Carol and I went quite a few times. Sometimes Ben got babysat, but I did what Dad did. We put him in jammies and I carted him in when we got home.
Same thing in Bedford and Richland after I got out. I doubt he remembers much, but that was what married people with kids did back then. I never once fogged up the windows! eek “My Heroes Have Always Been Cowboys”, And I was always a gentleman.

Wife and I went to one before we were married. Last time we went was summer of 1972. That drive-in was torn down many years ago.

The one in town closed, but there is one 30 miles up the road that isn't quite as good as the old local one (screen is kinda small). We watched Top Gun Maverick up there. Good drive in movie.

Had a great one in my home town but sadly it’s now a Walmart parking lot. We have one 50 miles away I would like to take the grandkids to so they can experience it before they are all gone.

LOL.

The old ones that were still left here when I was in HS started showing only Porn Movies.

One that my parents took us to as kids reopened in my old home town about 10 years ago.
They advertised 2 first run movies + a hamburger meal for 2 people on “couples night” for $20 bucks.

It lasted about 3 years before vandals destroyed the screen with graffiti.

Portage has the Bar Ann,
One in Carroltown too. That's too darn far to drive home!
Richland is a drive after a long day and double feature!
(Getting old?)

Remember the Twins on 764?
I think it was there, we were out late one night, they were showing pork!
Just catching glimpses going by, Dad noticed and slowed down for Mom to
see. Of course I woke up to look!

Our drive-ins had the sound broadcast over the car radio. The only thing to tear off the poles was the optional cabin heater.

I remember Smokey and the Bandit at the "Pay-Ont" between Ontario Oregon and Payette Id.

Dusk to dawn spaghetti westerns at the Meridian Drive-in near Boise in 1976 with a couple buddies and four quarts of Bohemian Beer in a 71 Dodge Dart. That car still stunk three months later when we went home for summer vacation.

My cousins lived a couple miles from the Terrace Drive in in Caldwell. We averaged about one night/week down there. in warm weather. So many grade B and second run movies. A big 60 quart cooler in the back of a 66 Chevy LWB 1/2 ton pickup parked facing away from the scene. Several lawn chairs.

First kiss from the woman I later married was at the Terrace, watching "Zapped" with Scott Baio and Heather Thomas. Her sixteen year old sister went to the movie with us in my '82 Toyota PU. Little sis finally fell asleep on the passenger side of the seat.

Many, many Drive-in movies. We still have one such operating locally in Parma Id. It made the news a couple years back when they transitioned to all digital format. But I have never been to that one.

There's only one in south Jersey, the Delsea Drive-In, in Vineland. Been in business since 1949.

Never been there. Last movie I've seen at a drive-in was Close Encounters of the Third Kind.
It's been a while.

Hell, for me those grainy speakers hanging I the window were part of the experience! That’s why Carol and I were parked where we were, and why Danny could park 3 rows back!
Sure, I’d tune the radio, but your gotta remember I first heard “fill your hand you sonuvabitch!” Was Through those grainy old speakers grin
You know, I got a boatload of those same movies on DVD. I can watch them anytime it strikes me. They’re my favorite movies.
But to go back in time and watch them outta the back seat of the Bonneville with Mom & Dad, or to watch “Footloose” with Carol through the windshield of “my baby” would be worth all the tea in China.
Some of you know what I’m saying, the lucky ones. The rest can’t even imagine.
