Can anyone recommend a good one? We are spending more time on the back deck in the evening.

LeakyWaders cued me on to Stellarium here not too far back. It’s a free app and works well.

I recently downloaded Stellarium but haven't done much with it yet. The little I've done has been good. If you have an iphone, Skyview Lite works well. It's also free. It's not available on Android.

If you're stargazing, spend $20 or so and get a decent laser pointer that reaches way out. It's invaluable when with someone to point out stars, etc. I got this one on Amazon for $23 this spring. It's worked very well. I can put it on any star. Many of the cheaper ones are just for pointing out bugs on a wall or chasing a cat. This one has range. This one isn't called a laser pointer, though, so I had a hard time finding it. They call it a 'long range green beam flashlight'. LASER POINTER

Can anyone recommend a good one? We are spending more time on the back deck in the evening. You might want to take a look around the Astronomy Software & Computers sub forum on the Cloudy Nights forum website. (I've been a member of Cloudy Nights since 2014.) Astronomy Software & ComputersThis is the place to discuss all things associated with computers & gadgets, both hardware and software (including PDAs, smartphones, tablets, laptops, astronomy programs and apps, Celestron SkyScout and Meade MySky devices, etc.) -- as they relate to astronomy.https://www.cloudynights.com/forum/95-astronomy-software-computers/Three apps / programs I can recommend are: SkySafari (app for iOS and Android) https://skysafariastronomy.com/Stellarium (program for desktop / laptop) https://stellarium.org/Stellarium Mobile (app for iOS and Android) https://stellarium-labs.com/Cheers!
