My wife showed me a window sticker for a 2022 Raptor which was apparently sitting on the lot in a southern California dealership. Sticker price was $187k and change.
WTH. that's twice what i paid for my house- well, it's been a few years.

Eh, no big deal. Was at Bass Pro this weekend and saw a $106K bass boat. Easy finance terms were 11% interest for 240 months.
Let that set in.

Small business owners spending their covid checks. I got a friend who just bought a brand new $90,000 ram Cummings dually with one of his covid Grant checks. He got tens of thousands for each employee at his small auto repair shop. He said the just sent him another $280,000 grant and that he's got nearly half a million total.

My wife's employer got a bunch of money for her. They put her on leave a first because things were so slow and then one night called in almost a panic demanding she be back at work the next morning and gave her this big lecture on how they needed a solid commitment from her that she would stay there and not leave. Turns out they were getting some huge grants to keep her employed. Of course we never saw a penny of it.

They're doing this on purpose. They don't want an American middle class. They want what they believe is the more natural system, whereby there's a tiny super wealthy class, and then there are the hungry masses, eager to serve them in any capacity afforded them for a few crumbs and a thatch roofed hoval ("You will have nothing ... and be happy;" "You will eat the bugs.").

Their main method for accomplishing this is gutting the value of our money via inflation till the objective is achieved. Inflation is correctly defined as continually increasing the supply of currency units, thus reducing the purchasing power of each unit of currency in mathematical proportion thereto.

Other methods are such as outlawing the production of fuel, the use of cars by regular people, the eating of meat by regular people, travel for regular people, etc., while importing the third world in mass into what had previously been the first world.

I hardly call a Ford Raptor a working mans truck. It might be a fools truck but a fool and his money are soon parted.

Auto Manufacturers are seeing what other industries are doing with their "inflated" sales prices and following suit. I don't think Yellen and her group of clowns are smart enough to see the effects of applying smart economic principles.

The pickups subsidize the electric vehicles.

That's government regulation at its finest.

Putting a $187,000 pickup on the lot.....

makes those $80,000 pickups seem reasonably priced.

Marketing ploy as old as the hills.

I'd want about 5 new pickups for that $$....

I think I paid about $50k for a new 2017 4x4 F350 with a custom flatbed and transfer tank/toolbox setup. It just turned over to 61k miles.

I think I'll keep it awhile. smile

At these prices would it be worth it to buy an older “no frills” pickup and pay a good mechanic to rebuild it?

For the status conscious the answer would likely be “no”.

For the hard working guy that needs a reliable truck for his work the answer might be “no”, especially if he can write off much of the cost with depreciation and business expense deductions.

But for everyone else????

Bought a 2018 GMC Sierra lightly used, with 23k miles on it, did not notice the narrow sidewall tires much, rides like absolute crap, a covered wagon ride better, compared to my old 2009 Sierra. Took it to my tire dealer, race car builder, asked him, can you fix that, sure, about $3k.
What in the world, yep GM and the rest trying to make the highest gas milage level, screwed up their PUs suspension, wheels, tires, wheel wells, etc. Max tire difference without the change is 2" in total height, or 1" per side unless you change it all out, Well Crapola.

They are running 50psi + tires to keep from bending the fancy rims on just the regular flat roads. Good luck on any off roading.

Wife came home with a 2008 f350 with a brand new engine and tranny. Roll up windows and manual locks. I like simple, less to fix. Hard to find nowadays
