Wondering if anyone that has had an 89 in 500 S&W has had issues cycling?

I’ve tried now four different types of ammo, everything from 275 grains to 440 grains and it won’t cycle anything. When I called them they said I need to “run it harder” in the beginning. I’ve run it as hard as I can and it won’t cycle. Anyone have a similar experience before I ship it back?

I have not shot mine yet so can't help much.
Have you tried coloring the case and bullet with a black marker to see where it is making contact?

I literally just got mine a day ago, but I immediately cycled a few rounds thru it, no issues whatsoever. Yes, run it hard, but realistically you can’t cycle a lever gun to forcefully, especially one as beefy as the BHA….

Upon further inspection it appears as though the round is getting hung up on the loading gate. There is a small claw on the backside of the loading gate and the round coming out of the tube can’t get past that claw.

Update: Called and spoke with the good folks at Bighorn Armory. After discussing it we decided to try a new loading gate which they promptly shipped me. The new loading gate was clearly different specs than the original so I'm assuming that the original loading gate that was installed on the rifle was for a 45 Cal rifle instead of the 500 S&W. After installing the new loading gate, the rifle functions flawlessly. Hopefully I can get it out to shoot yet this weekend. Will provide an update at that time.

I’m glad to see that you and BigHorn figured it out!

I just a couple hours ago handled an 89 in 500 S&W…..a really sweat rifle! Would love to have it…..but, simply can’t justify (or afford) it! memtb

That’s great news. The feel of the mechanicals of these lever guns is phenomenal. Guess a simple mixed up part can throw a very big wrench in the works. I’m glad to see they worked with you to accomplish the preferred outcome, a flawless working product.
