Each year we can get an early start to upland with a 3 day hunt on a Military base for sharptails. It is a tough outing with the historical average being around .8 bird per hunter per day. We have managed to do better than the average for a number of years. This year was 9 birds in 2 days and just some excellent campfire dinners with friends.

The big item for me this year was the first upland outing for my new Toller pup (14 months) to see how he would do. It was an excellent weekend -- his tracking was great, whistle sit on hot scent waiting for a person to position and then send in, quartering with in range, nice retrieves with no mouthing / crunching issues. The older Toller continues to do an excellent job. Older guy (7) is on the left.
