This started life as a H&R 12ga but now is a 357 Maximum.

I cut the 12ga barrel off and threaded a countoured GM barrel blank into the stub. The only task that remains is to dig out my Etch-O-Matic and mark the barrel with the new chambering.

Overall length is 18.5" and it's twisted 1:20. I expect to hit 2000fps with a 158gr jacketed bullet.

The finish is Oxpho Blue. I know it's not the best finish but it's surely better than what H&R used.

All in all I had about 25 hours wrapped up over a few months but I did it in my spare time while working a full time job.

It's been fun and I will continue making these for myself. In fact, I'm kinda torn between my next one being a 218 Bee or 7-30 Waters. I think H&R/NEF really missed out on a grand business opportunity by never chambering their barrels in 7-30 Waters.

Test fired only. I plan to sight in the irons later this week. This is the third stub I have done but this is the first one I used a barrel blank for and contoured/tapered the blank. The others shoot well. I expect this one will too.

Yes, since this project took months to complete they're spread all over my phone. I'll try to sort through my pictures and post them later tonight.

Nice job of work!

(Boy, wouldn't a double barreled .357 Maxi be cool? Hint, hint!)

Savage made a Model 24 OU gun with a 357 Magnum barrel and a shotgun barrel. I know a guy who reamed the chamber to 357 Max. He said that was the easy part. Regulating the barrels to shoot to POA was not easy. While a barrel could possibly be stubbed onto the shotgun barrel, I'm not the person to take on that challenge. I'm not convinced a liner would be sufficient. Nonetheless, regulating the barrels would not be enjoyable.

Nice looking job.
The 180s will normally reach up to 2,000 in the 357 Super Mag (Max) with H-110/296, you can use small rifle primers in the single shot and go on up to 50k with flattened primers. Not shooting a handgun any longer, load it like a rifle.
The 200 RN for the 35 Remington, is a real killer.

I'd bet a liner would be thicker than a revolver cylinder.
Especially at the notch.
