Looking to brighten up the interior of a cabin I have. Too dark as it was previously stained. It’s also rough so it’s hard to make clean. Any advice for brightening it up? Sand, and gloss finish? Perhaps different lighting. I am going to put new lighting in. It still looks dirty IMO even when I blast it with light.

High gloss polyurethane? A couple of strategically placed mirrors? I am thinking high gloss polyurethane. Was hoping someone had gone down that road before I took the plunge. I have some logs in inconspicuous spots I might test the high gloss stuff out on today.

Interior logs often have dust on them. Might need cleaning to get PU or paint to adhere.
I had a place in Salcha that was 3-sided logs. Flat side inside Cleaned up nice with a power plane.
Can you get absorbent at the floor and wash the logs? Is sand blasting an option?

I would try cleaning with some type of nylon brush and cleaning solution of choice.
After clean assess how it looks.
Part of the draw of a log cabin is the rustic patina, so the gloss poly may be too much.
Is it an older log cabin or fairly recently built?

Round logs, forget it. The juice ain't worth the squeeze. Mirrors, lighting, window treatments, rugs will brighten it up.

I had big windows in every room so that helped with lighting Not many other options that work. A friend paintd the ceiling white in the kitchen and actually looks pretty good and really lightened up interior

Once you go down that road though Did you put furring strips and fasten drywall to them?
