Took my 11 year old grand daughter to check the cows and her sharp eyes spotted a young coyote with the herd. She said "please let me shoot it". I said OK, have at it. We are always packing. She got out with her .223 Weatherby Vanguard and downed him with a brain shot at a measured 125 yards. She is a good shot and killed a good 8 point whitetail with the same load but I was a bit surprised (and proud of her). I have actually found girls are easier to train to shoot a rifle than boys.
Will try to get a Louisiana friend to post a picture. I don't know how. Maybe she won't get arrested like that poor girl did in Montana last year. I don't think this was an Alaskan Husky on the loose.

He mentioned that she didn't like recoil. He'd offered her a more powerful rifle, but she likes that one.
I replied shot placement is key and that rifle with the right bullet/load is deadly..
It'll whack about anything she'll encounter around here, especially the way she shoots.

This girl has eyes like an Indian. She hates the black vultures since they attack baby calves. She will point at the sky and say "buzzard" and I don't see a thing. I pick up my binoculars and sure enough there is one there. She knows how to look for things out of place and will spot a piece of a deer that most people would miss.
She is decidedly left handed and left eye dominant. When she killed that big 8 point December of 2021 I tried to get her to take her Dad's left hand .308W. She would have none of that and told me she didn't need but one shot anyway. Oh well, there is nothing more important than hitting the target.
All I shoot anymore is hogs and predators. I just scout deer for the kids and grand kids. And help them skin them.

Having a gramps for guide, deer skinner, and packer has to be a tremendous blessing for a youngster.
