I recently upgraded my spotter to Leica and am looking at getting a better tripod to go with it. Any recommendations on quality full height tripods would be great.

Thank you,
Andrew

Is size and portability a concern? What's your budget?

You might want to look at Field Optics. I have been very pleased with mine. Extends to full height, collapses small enough to fit in a backpack, lightweight and 2 of the legs detach to become trekking poles.

I am continually astounded at how quickly people make up their minds on little evidence or none at all.

My photographer friends have been impressed with the spendy RRS Really Right Stuff, and Leophoto tripods. I have an old Induro that keeps chugging along after several years, but the screws tightening the legs onto the spider tend to loosen. Try and find a tripod that gives you the height without needing to extend the center column.

The Really Right Stuff TVC24L or TVC34L are hard to beat. The various imported copies of the RRS tripods can be quite good as well, at a substantially lower cost. It all depends on how much you intend to use the tripod, and whether the increased durability of the RRS tripods is something you'll take advantage of. Also, I would recommend getting a tripod that does not have a center column; that will help keep weight down, and extending a center column only gains you some height at the cost of a great loss of stability.

Hey guys, so shortly after posting this my buddy talked me into buying an Outdoorsman tripod and an Outdoorsman pan head. I will post back with an update after I get it and try it out. Thank you all for the feedback! I may still be in the market for a more compact one for certain occasions though.

I really like the Sirui A-1205 WY11 head i got from Doug at cameraland. It was under 200 last year when I got it. I spent a lot of time behind it last year with my binos and am really happy with it.

I have 2, slik-carbon fiber. They work really well and my boy uses one for back packing. It's light and durable.
