Never, ever been comfortable with the open casket concept or, for that matter, embalming.
Always been a tradition in my family...
... until my mom passed, and the decisions became my responsibility:
basic, but very nice wooden casket, closed, and no embalming. Not everyone present approved.
I hope they eventually got over it.

The funeral business is criminal in how they prey upon the bereaved at their most vulnerable time.

I don't care if my body gets used for compost in the tomato garden. I'll be done with it.

I've reconsidered the whole cremation and chemtrail thing.

I've decided I want a casket that has a hatch that opens in the middle instead of at the end where the pillow is. I will have an open casket ceremony, and be placed in my box face down naked as a jaybird so the whole world can kiss my ass.

Noone is making them use the funeral service.

Noone is making them conduct business at the time of death.

For the wife and I it's cremation with no services.

Did the same for my wife's grandparents.

Waste of time and $$. No need to make a spectacle of it. Not like it's a rare happening.

As far as I am concerned they could toss my ashes in the trash can at the BBQ joint. Not sure legal though.

Some years back, the wife's grandfather died of a heart condition, in Albuquerque.
A local funeral home, owned by a "friend" wanted $1200 to bring the body back to town from the Office of the Medical Investigator, in ABQ. ~125 miles.
I asked the official if that was necessary, and he said "No, you can actually take it back yourself".
I hauled him back to town myself, in a body bag.
It was a quiet, peaceful ride.

I’m a fan of open casket funerals for the few (almost none) that I attend. Mostly so’s I can be sure they are dead. My stepfather was one. Me, cremation, and ashes scattered. I much prefer to remember friends and relatives as I knew them.

I would have done everything I could to get pulled over, within reason.

I'm leaving it up to family, whatever suits them. Cremation would be fine with me.

Nice to leave that upon them at one of the hardest times of their lives.

A few years back we responded to an accident call to find a private mortuary transport vehicle got in an accident on a busy road in the heat of summer with an unembalmed body in the back. Confused the dispatcher when 5 minutes after advising them there were no injuries I was asking for the coroners office to respond. They had to take the body to the morgue for cold storage until alternate transportation could be arranged.

My wife and I will be cremated and buried in the same plot in the WV veteran's cemetery four rows in front of High Brass' grave.

Is that a state run deal? My understanding is that the VA will not accommodate cremation in the national cemeteries.
