Last Of The Mohicans has a rally great musical score! I don’t know I call it a western, but I guess most folks do, so… Reon
"Preserving the Constitution, fighting off the nibblers and chippers, even nibblers and chippers with good intentions, was once regarded by conservatives as the first duty of the citizen. It still is." Wesley Pruden
I too, vote for Last of the Mohegans especially The Gael when played by 14 year old Jenny O’Conner (her father is known as Mark O’Conner, known as a studio musician in Nashville and as played on many a bluegrass CD). Great fiddle music stirs my Scotch/Irish bloodlines.
It takes a real Western connoisseur to not only know which movies are best, but also the depth of music and soundtracks. This from “Monte Walsh” in 1970 is right up there with Dylan’s “Knockin’ On Heaven’s Door” from “Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid”
Maybe you wouldn't call the Last of the Mohicans a 'western' but it had Injuns an guns...so I will nominate 'The Gael'...but mostly the versions by the American Rogues or the Royal Scots Dragoon Guards. Drums a pipes, aye, man music.
That whole movie soundtrack was a masterpiece. I gotta give credit to Michael Mann, he took the plot for my a corny 19th Century book and made it into a MOVIE.
"...if the gentlemen of Virginia shall send us a dozen of their sons, we would take great care in their education, instruct them in all we know, and make men of them." Canasatego 1744
Most of the western themes done by Elmer Bernstein are really good. Soundtracks of "The Cowboys", "High Noon", "The Professionals" and "Shane" are all good too.
