Thinking about a later model T-36 for use on my BSA International MkI for 100 yard benchrest work. Are they as good as people say they are? I'm a devotee of Unertl/Fecker/Lyman external adjustment scopes for the vintage single shot shooting I do. Switching out to a T-36 would free up a Unertl for use on a different rifle. Only experience with a T-series scope was a T-10 I employed on a .223 groundhog rifle 30+ years ago so I'm way out of the loop here.

When available new, they were pretty decent scopes for the money.....I've had several. The optics vary from scope to scope and are generally decent but not spectacular. They were available with a plain fine cross hair and also with a dot reticle. Unless you're buying a NIB one, there's always the known history of any target scope to consider. Plus the fact that there's no warranty coverage if there's an issue. I use this good T36 for load work for my hunting rigs....like my 250 Savage Ackley Improved. It's also been used (a lot) to sort out scope issues on other people's guns: For a 1" tube 36X scope that's reasonably priced and still available new ...the Sightron SII is a very good buy. I've had a half dozen and never had a single issue. This one is on one of my BR guns: Good shootin' -Al

Thanks Al. Food for thought.

I have a T-36 on a 40X in 6mm BR that works fine. It was fine when I got it, but I sent it to Iron Sight Inc. in Tulsa, OK, for a cleaning and general service. I know that Iron Sight Inc. no longer services Weaver variable power scopes, but I think that they still do Weaver fixed power scopes in the event that your scope ever needs to be serviced.
Has there ever been a Weaver scope that has precise enough windage and elevation adjustment to make it a competitive BR scope?

I have had three Weaver T-36 over the years and they all performed well, tracking was always spot on, the optics are a bit grainy, but for the price range acceptable. As Al mentioned the lack of factory warranty is a bit of a concern.
I have also had a Sightron Sll which was in the same price range and it too performed well. When looking through them the image clarity was identical to the T-36. The plus side for the Sightron is that is factory support for them.
I won a few matches using both -

When I was playing at the local Varmint For Score matches, mine worked fine.
The optics were brighter on a couple buddies 36x and 45x Leupold scopes but the tracking was more consistent on my
cheap Weaver 36x scopes so I was happy and competititive.
My brother started playing the same VFS game after the Weaver was discontinued and bought a Sightron 36X which
worked well and is still available for sale new.
