Hey Guys,

I've always wanted one of these in VG condition in .30-30, but almost never see them for sale.

Any idea how rare they are, and what they may cost? Are they all squirreled away in private collections?

Thanks,

Mannyrock

Well, since no one is answering, I'll offer some thoughts.

As with all things old Savage, if you see one for sale and you've been looking for one for forever, and you don't buy it, you have a screw loose. They aren't making them anymore you know.

And, did I mention they aren't making them anymore? So yes, they are squirreled away in private collections. They're not sitting on a shelf at Walmart waiting for you to walk in and snatch them up. After 100 plus years, they are most definitely squirreled away in someone's collection! You're going to have to wait for someone to die manny.

I probably sound like a smartass, and usually am, but manny you already answered your own questions. If you almost never see them for sale, they're either rare or they don't exist. Or I guess you could be a bad searcher. LOL

1899CD's are very uncommon. And even if you find an 1899 configured properly.. it's a crapshoot as to whether it was logged as an 1899CD, or as the base 1899 model with pistol grip and A3 checkering added.

Start watching.. but it could take a long time to find one in 30-30.

Good luck!

The hunt is the fun part. You learn a lot just from that. I was told that I would never find a 1878 Colt in .32/20 but I did! Good luck!
