Which would you choose and why. I leen more towards the Roberts if for no other reason the ease of componets and factory ammo if you go that route.

Had em both, still have the 6. Nothing wrong with the Robert's.

Only have the 6 because I purchased it from my step dad when times got tough for he and my mother a few years back, always wanted it so I got it.

Not sure components or factory ammo is any easier to find for one over the other.

I haven't found either to be particularly easy to find ammo or brass for, but if I could only have one, it would be the Bob.

I have both. The 6 is my heavy coyote rifle; the 257 is my light deer rifle. I have a light coyote rifle (223), and a heavy deer rifle (256 Newton). There is a chance I invent niches to fill. GD

In this day ad age I'd look at which one would be the easier to feed unless I gave a rat's ass about BCs (which I do not).

257 Roberts! Option of heavier bullets trump everything else in normal hunting ranges. Of course someone is going to chime in on 6 mm BC who have never shot a deer past 200 yards. Oh don’t forget the turret scope for such.

I have a 6mm and a 25-06
Will never own a Bob unless a wicked good deal was to fall into my lap.

I'd go with the 6mm, but it has to have a 1:10 twist or better.

My notion about these and a bunch of others in decline is that they’re well worth keeping if you have them because they work just fine, worth dealing with the logistical issues for the sake of a nice old rifle, but not worth the trouble of a build or otherwise pursuing because other stuff has come along that does the same things just as well, a thing or two better, with easy to find “parts”.

I’ve had a Bob, and a number of .243s, but now I have a 6CM that can fire bullets from 55gr at 4100fps to 115gr at 3000fps (numbers from Hodgdon, I don’t push that hard on it).

6mm Rem Tang Safety Ruger Varmint rifle has served me well and I've got a pile of ammo and loading setup for it. If I'm going to go larger I'll grab a 6.5 for the ballistics. 264 WM for me but a 6.5 Creedmoor is a great option for shorter range shots on critters too. Guess I've never seen the magic in the 257, though I really want to try a 25-06 for no logical reason whatsoever.

257 if you want to shoot heavier bullets; 6mm all day if you want to shoot lighter bullets.

I still regret the day I sold my last 6mm.

I've owned both. There's no real difference between the two that I could see. In today's world, I go with a fast twist 6CM.

I have a Bob and really like it for my light deer gun.

But 257 caliber bullets are not being produced at the rate of 6 mm bullets due to the popularity of several 243/6mm chamberings. It's been a couple of years since I've seen Nosler 257 cal Accubonds or BT at my LGS. Nosler is the only source for Bob brass now and it's near $3/piece these days.

6mm Remington brass is probably about as scarce but other components are more available making it a more logical choice.

But rifle looneyism has nothing to do with logic...

Good thing is the brass is the same so one cartridge can make brass for the other.

I have one 6mm Rem 700V. It hasn't been out of the safe, except for routine clean and oil, since 1974.

I have 3 257R that I keep busier than a two peckered billy goat.

Not a gun writer, but I do own a briefcase. Both are kind of classy. 6mm bullets are easier to find. The Roberts MIGHT be better if hunting heavy game. No matter, as I have other rifles for that. So does most everyone else. Get what you like. Or just give in and get a Creedmoor.
