Thinking of reboring my old faithful 7 mag barrel (#3 Douglas). Does anyone rebore magnum barrels from 7 mag to 300 or 338? Anyone ever have this done? What say you?

I think JES will do the 338.

For the 300 check this LINK out.

My Winchester 1895 in 35 Whelen 12-twist shoots very well.

If the rifle isn't real light I would go 338. Depends on what I would need it for though.

I’m thinking about doing the same thing with a literally brand new 1965 model 70. I don’t want or need a 7 mag but I could use another 338wm so down the road, unless I fall in love with the 7mag, it’ll become what every rifle wishes it was….a 338wm. 😀

Most definitely he will do the 338 Win or larger. And he does a good job for a fair price as well.

Do a quick check on component availability before you make any decisions.

if the barrel is shot fine, if it shoots good leave it alone. That might entail having to have the barrel set back a thread. Why pour a bunch in a rebore?.mb

Sounds like a perfect candidate for a 358 Norma to me.

Check for components first? Avoid unnecessary smith costs? What sort of enablers are you two?! 😇😂

Yep. 338 components aren't exactly plentiful. Good luck.

Why are you thinking of reboring it and what action are you working with? Kind of important questions those.

don't waste another dime on that Douglas junk, take it off the rifle, close your eyes and toss it in the dumpster .... Then get a brand new high quality Bartlein 30 cal barrel in the proper twist for todays high bc bullets and it will still work for all other bullets, money very well spent , cartridge would be your choice but I'd go with the 300 Win Mag, ammo is piled high on shelves from many different mfgs in many different bullet weights & types, 338 Win Mag is hard to find unless you're a handloader and have the ability to form cases from other belted mag brass... or have, or know someone with a stockpile of brass, I make mine out of Peterson 7mm Rem Mag brass with cream of wheat, 12 gr of Blue Dot and a paraffin wax plug, one pop and you're done, necks end up a bit short but no trimming required for the life of the brass

Bugholes have 30 cal Bartlein barrels in stock, ready to ship in the #3 contour in 29" blanks, you can have your smith cut it to 28" or anywhere down to 20" .... They can also flute the barrel for ya, choose from many different fluting styles

I have two 29" 30 cal #3B blanks enroute from bugholes, one fluted and one round

reboring an old junk barrel is a waste of time & money for zero gain and you're still stuck with junk

Bartlein 30 cal #3 1:8 twist 29" blank
