One of my all-time favorite WWII films.
No matter how many times I watch it, the final scene where Dean Jagger visits the old airfield always gets to me.

A slight correction. That scene OPENS the movie. I have thought for many years that opening of 12 O'clock High is one of the all time most effective openings for a movie I've ever seen ... and I've seen one helluva lot of movies. wink

FWIW.

Believe it opens and closes there. Site is Barford St John. I believe the Air Force still has a few people there, but the air field is long gone. The tower was still there in the early 90s.

Great movie that the Woke will never appreciate. The TV series was good too.

The movie has leadership lessons that still apply today - but not in our current military, evidently....

One of my uncles flew with the 8th Air Force. Took two rides on the silk, but made it back to Allied territory both times.

Don't know about currently, but that movie used to be shown as a part of leadership classes at the AF Academy. Good start for discussions.

Yes there is an entire leadership course based on the film.

Not sure if that’s still allowed. LOL

Also used by the FAA, when I had management classes in the early 90s.

Every Saturday night on a CBS affiliate it comes on at Midnight. Sometimes I don't make it to midnight but it's worth watching. My dad's first cousin was in the 100th Bomb Group in WWII and lived some of those scenarios.

One of my favorite movies. I made sure to catch it when it was on the tube. After watching the movie and the tv show, I never realized that the cockpit was as narrow as it actually was until I looked over the suspended B-17 from the catwalk around it at the WWII museum in New Orleans. The pilot and copilot were actually almost bumping elbows but the films made it look like they were 2’-3’ apart.

The movie was also used by the Navy in a leadership course. LMT or something like that. I went through it at NAS Pensacola.

The base of the 34th Bombardment Group, Mendlesham, is now an RAF station.

My uncle Jim flew 28 missions from there until his death on 01/20/1945.
