Browsing Gunbroker Saturday morning and picked up a 77 in 22 magnum. I've had one of the 77/22 lr for years I really like. Shoots well with a variety of ammo. Anyone else have the 22 magnum version?

Had one many years ago. My only criticism was how uncomfortable it was to carry, with the wide, flat stock right at the balance point. It was very accurate with CCI 40 grainers, sub 1" at 50 yds, did not like the lighter weight higher velocity offerings.. it was very reliable.

Still have one in 22 Mag and also one in 17HMR.

I use to take the 22 Mag out shooting sage rats, when ammo was like $7 a box.....the 40 gr CCIs.

Pretty accurate with those out to 200 yds, with the appropriate reticle on the scope.
( same with the 17 HMR)...

I enjoy it and my Marlin 25 MN in 22 Mag. Don't shoot it very often due to the price and lack of availability on ammo these days. But wouldn't give it away...

I had a boat-paddle SS 77/22 mag. 1-1/4 moa gun with the CCI Maxi Mag +V ammo. Pretty much was a moron selling it. I don't recall whether I traded it towards a 9422 mag or vice versa but both are gone. I have a varminter in .17 HMR which has the V-block setup, not a threaded barrel, and I have a notion of getting a .22 mag barrel to drop in.

My older Ruger is plenty accurate, under !/2 inch at 50 yards with the right ammo. I have accurized a number of 77/22's but I don't remember doing anything to this one.

I have a boat paddle 77/22 Magnum that has probably killed a thousand prairie dogs. It has been a great little rifle.

Had the 77/22 Blue/wood quite some time ago. Benched at 100 yards it would shoot 1" with I don't recall if it was Win 40 grain HP's or CCI 40 grain HP's. It was great for ground squirrels, extended my range considerably compared to the 22 LR I usually shot. It was my first 22 magnum, I didn't know what I had. Yep another stupid story... I sold it to buy the new 77/22 Hornet. Never bought the Hornet, as the gun rags said the Hornet was a great gun, but the best groups they got (at 100 yards) were 1 1/2", most worse, so I passed.

Years later I picked up one of the 77/22 Magnums with the heavy stainless barrel & laminated stock, thinking that it would even be more accurate. Despite a collection of every flavor of 22 Magnum and trying a couple of different scopes... I couldn't get it to shoot worth a damn.

I've had a few of the Boat Paddles, but all of those are gone now. Some shot better than others, but the Ruger 77/22's were always a good-looking rifles.

Stainless LR and Blued Mag. They are both pleasantly accurate. The mag likes 50 grain Federal ammo.

I had two of them years ago. The first one wouldn't shoot any better than about 2 1/2 to 3" at 100 yards with anything I tried in it. Didn't have it long and got rid of it. Not long after that a gun store was going out of business so I picked up the second one at a good price. It did some better with a few loads hanging around 1 1/2", but since I had had a Marlin that shot better, I still wasn't happy. Rebarreled it with a Green Mtn heavy fluted .17HMR that was a tack driver and eventually bought another Marlin 22 mag. It too, out shoots both the Rugers.

77/22s were known for having accuracy issues. I picked both of these up new after Ruger discontinued them. Under $400 bucks. Knowing their value would escalate, it was an easy decision. They both shoot better than I expected. They feel great in the hand too. When you hold a Ruger American, you know you are holding a cheap gun. When you hold a 77/22 you know you are holding a quality piece. I got lucky.

I agree. I have a 17HMR American, my 22 mag is an old 783. Somewhat better feeling to me but still not the same feel as a 77/22, just more accurate than either of the ones I had.

I have a paddle stock SS 22 mag and it shoots lights out with the 30gr hornady v-max bullets. Love the feel of them too they are incredibly light in that configuration.

I have a boat paddle stainless that I cut to 16 inch barrel, and put a 4X leupold compact on for my hound gun.killed a ton of bobcats,and 2 cougars with it.Hounds are out now around here,but I love my Ruger!

The later threaded barrel models are very accurate. I like that it feels and operates just like my ruger 338 rcm and 416 ruger.

Except last year I accidentally grabbed my 338 rcm, to take a beaver, when both rifles were equipped with 2.5x ultralight scopes. They both were too similar when yer paying attention to an animal.
There's usually 3-4 guns stashed in my riverboat for different purposes.

A buddy sent one to me (laminated stock, fairly heavy barrel) about ten years ago. He asked me to make it shoot.

I did everything I could imagine, short of alterations which would detract from sale value. I tried every brand of ammo I could find locally. Nothing would shoot inside 4 moa.

He sold it and bought a Marlin, which is not nearly as pretty, but did shoot to expectations.

The two I owned years ago lived up to that poor accuracy reputation. Sold both and would never buy another Ruger rimfire.
