I doubt Joe could figure out something as complicated as Velcro. Anything beyond slippers requires and aid to secure them.

He has been wearing them for awhile already. Go look at the pics from his fall at the Air Force Academy. Those were dress shoes with a special athletic shoe type sole. They are pretty slick. You can’t really tell from photos until you see the bottoms of them.
